NAY

I'll propose the alternate amendment once this is done.

Well Talleyrand, assuming this current amendment fails, I've put together one of my own...

I'm fine with that amendment if you'd just remove the section about protecting Atlasian infrastructure... I think even if that were under threat, it would be covered by the significant change in geopolitical climate.

I've edited the offered amendment to reflect that change. Smiley

My apologies, I just realized that a voting change period isn't needed for amendments. So
The result of the vote:
Aye (1): TNF
Nay (7): Cranberry, Windjammer, Cris, polnut, Lief, Hagrid, Talleyrand
Non voting (1): SWE

This amendment has failed to be adopted.

For senators who haven't voted yet, you have March 13, 2015, 04:26:14 pm to vote if you wish to have your vote counted in the Cris and Windjammer tracker.

These changes seem sensible to me, and they do not really change intent or nature of the bill, so I will support this amendment.

Alright guys, I got to be very frank with all of you, I do have significant concerns over this bill.

[Clauses 1 and 4](1) The timeline set by this law is a very strict one. I'm not exactly sure how are we going to manage to have a deal with the Nigerian Government in 17 days. (IN REAL LIFE TERMS: You are basically giving me something like two weeks and asking me (a 18 year old boy with no military expertise and diplomatic experience) to write a deal  based on negotiations that I will have to have with Kalwejt. This situation completely ignores that any sort of deal  involves a lot of time effort, a resource that can be extremely scarce during my College Routine).

(2) We don't have clear information of what is actually happening in Nigeria There has been a long time(if ever) that Atlasia hasn't took a great look over this issue. Furthermore, I'm not fully aware of the current Atlasian involvement in the Nigerian Crisis and if we have any sort of significant military aide with that government.

[Section 1c](3) This bill reduces powers from the Department of State to act rapidly and deal with any significant outbreak in the region. Let's not forget that, based on this section, Atlasia won't be able to send any sort of support troop even in UN-led Peacekeeping, Peace-building or Peace-enforcement missions.

Boko Haram has recently pledged alliance with ISIS and that is certainly should be a matter of concern to all Senators. Some of those restrictions limit a lot the scope of action of the Departments of Defense and State and that is why I can't agree with all the Sections from this bill.Nonetheless, I must say that I will be glad to support all of the remaining clauses from this legislation.
