OK, new title:

Update XXIII: Saving My Feet in the Safe Room

We had a sweet string of potential titles a few pages back.  I'd rather pick from one of them because they were golden.  Then again, we have no idea what this season has in store for us considering the job.

I have been downgraded to a Severe Thunderstorm Warning that is in effect until 8:15 pm.  I have had two storms come within 2 miles of me either side.  I still have power and my car is still in good shape, so I won't have problems going to work in the morning.  The cold front has come through and it is dropping our temperatures and pushing our severe threat to the south.  Unfortunately, there has been one fatality in a trailer park in Sand Springs, a west suburb of Tulsa.

How about this for a season XXIII title?

"Update XXIII: I have been downgraded to a Severe Thunderstorm Warning" fits.

Let's stop talking about Bushie or any related Update news itself, and just spend the next 47 pages of this thread talking about what Update XXIII should be called.

Thank goodness he's okay. Does he have an early shift in the morning? Why is he going to bed this early?

Does [redacted] have its own safe room?  Is there a safe place to be if a tornado hits while Bushie is at work?

Presumably they would all huddle together for warmth in the meat freezer and wait for it all to blow over.

Good Thursday morning, guys!  I woke up with my alarm at officially 0258.  I am about to go in and start getting ready for work.  I need to leave at 0420.  I may take a nap when I get home so I can stay up and watch some Sweet 16 games tonight.

Thank goodness he's okay. Does he have an early shift in the morning? Why is he going to bed this early?

Yes, I have to work from 0500-1330.

This is a reasonable job for a clockwatcher. There are no ongoing projects that need attention. You clock in, help people, and when it's time for the shift to be over, the shift is over, and you clock out. In our rush to condemn Bushie's failings, of which there are many, we may be overlooking how good of a fit this job may be for him.

It's definitely his best and only shot to not be unemployed for the rest of his life.

I am home from another really good day at work.  My feet are so tired after working my first 8 hour shift of this new job.  I think I am going to take a nap for a little while because I want to stay up and watch the Sweet 16 games tonight before I go to bed.  I am not getting up early tomorrow, instead I am going to opt for sleeping in. Smiley

And, yes, I get the 420 jokes.

Which of the numerous and thus, redundant weather apps on your mobile phone did you track the storm with?

I used all of them interchangeably.  I streamed the wall-to-wall TV coverage on my News on 6 app (CBS affiliate).

I've been through 4 full training shifts at work and have worked all three shifts - opening, midday, and closing.  I am starting to get some knowledge under my belt.  I can work the counter pretty well and I'm pretty good at keeping things stocked.  I spent from 0500-1300 today prepping some of the meat that they would go onto sell.  I am starting to get a feel for everything there is to do in the meat department.  I have found nothing but very friendly coworkers at both locations I have worked at so far.  I still have one more shift at Bixby on Sunday before I shift my attention fully to the Grand Opening of the Owasso store.  I am getting more and more comfortable in my work and I am better able to handle being on my feet for a long period of time.  For the first time, I have a sense of "I can do this" that is backed up by my production.  This is much better than a call center job and I believe it has more potential.  Good times are happening and more good times are ahead.

I found something today in the meat department that I want to try one of these days.  It is their Bacon-Cheddar Chicken Breast.  It is a chicken breast stuffed with cheddar cheese and wrapped in bacon and topped with bread crumbs.  I prepared some today to put in the display and it really looked good.  I will have to ask how one would cook it at home.

That's an unusual place to store knowledge.

Uh oh, isn't this usually the part where things start going horribly wrong?

Even by your definition of "diet"...

Honestly, Bushie could do a whole heck of a lot worse than bacon-cheddar chicken breast. It's a huge net improvement over the usual because it has ~0 carbs in it.

If he doesn't mix that chicken with potatoes or rice, he'll be fine. The nasty secret no one wants to tell you is fat is okay for your body. It's processed sugars and carbohydrates that make you fat. "Low fat" is just a marketing lie fed to you by the powers that be.

That's why the World Health Org, etc are now saying eggs don't raise your cholesterol and saturated fats in meat and dairy aren't as bad for you as they first said.
