I've never followed KY politics all too much, but I'm curious as to why people on Atlas are always saying that Jack Conway is a bad candidate.

I look at his Senate results compared to 2004 and 2008 and I'm not really getting the picture. Bunning was a joke Senator and barely slid by in a wave Republican year. McConnell is an obviously strong candidate and slid by a bit more comfortably in a wave D year. Conway did less than three points worse than Lunsford in a mid-term year that was arguably the worst for Democrats at the time than at any point in the past 20 years, compared to Lunsford's run in perhaps the best D climate in the same time period.

What am I missing?

For a while, Conway came across as so, so, so whiny. He went on and on about stupid stuff.

Certainly, the Conway of today would be better than any Republican, but I got so sick of hearing him complain.

Conway's utterly desperate campaign in 2010. It was only because Rand Paul was, well, Rand Paul that he even got as close as he did. I wouldn't be surprised if a candidate less prone to mistakes and thin skin-ish-ness would've clobbered Conway even harder.

Not like he was any worse than Alison, but still pretty damn awful. And I feel like Kentucky Democrats have a considerable Michigan Republican problem - a bunch of people who work okay as statewide candidates, but once a light is shined on them they crumble so quickly. I'm sure Conway could be elected Governor, but not if there is a bit of light shined on him, because it seems like every time there is he panics and endorses the Bush Tax Cuts after he explicitly didn't or accuse his opponents of praising Aquabuddha and don't LOVE LOVE LOVE jesus.

Cracks under pressure, is more desperate than a high school senior trying to lose his v-card.

LOL.

I'd argue, overall, I'm to your right.

Lenin! Lenin! Warn the villagers! The Red Terror is coming!

Atlas Right really needs to stop whining whenever anyone "conservative" is attacked.

Why would conservatives (especially ones who have social liberal tendencies who, in theory, would be at least semi-favorable to Rand Paul) defend Jack Conway?

I'm just talking about the general persecution complex that the new right-wingers on here have. That is, if there are any non-progressives on here, then the reason that Atlas hates them is because they aren't progressive - even if there are other legitimate concerns.

I was referring to comments by Hawk and blackraisin, who seem to think Conway is hated because of some big forum witch-hunt instead of referring to his Senate campaign, which every liberal who does not like the christian right should hate. I agree with your post to an extent - I do think, when it comes down to posters of equal awfulness, right wingers are attacked more.

I wouldn't say it is a persecution complex. If you are anywhere close to even center-right and express that opinion, you are savaged here, condescended to, and just treated unkindly here for the most part. Of course there are exceptions, but folks like me, Phil, and oldiesfreak are treated unfairly on a regular basis.

Again this has nothing to do with politics.  Notice how no one is ever complaining about Dereich, TJ, Muon, Cathcon, Maxwell, Torie, etc the way they do about folks like you, Krazen, Oldies, AggregateDemand, etc

I'd say Free Bird is partially right that there is a double standard for the right here. I have a hard time imagining a right-wing version of TNF getting a 50-60% FF vote.

A right-wing version of TNF would be a borderline Nazi, TBF.
