Death should cut a man down when his mind is still keen.

I was just reading about him on Wikipedia. In fact, someone on AH.com made an infobox about him being a Liberal Democratic MP just the other day.

RIP, FF.

Apparently it was a chest infection, in conjunction with the Alzheimer's. I'm glad the Alzheimer's, alone, at least didn't get him in the end.

I may not have read Discworld, but it would take a buffoon to not recognize Pratchett's influence on our literature. May he RIP along with great authors like C.S Lewis, J.R.R Tolkien, Roald Dahl, and Dr. Suess, in a land of wonder and enchantment, illuminated by the light and knowledge that comes from reading.

Can't say I know much about him, but RIP.

That's quite sad. Having Alzheimer's is a chillingly horrible fate for anybody, but it seems particularly cruel for an author of fiction.

It was early-onset, too. He was diagnosed in 2007, when he was fifty-nine. But through some extraordinary effort of the will he kept writing right until the end. Between his diagnosis and his death he wrote five Discworld novels alone.

We've lost Sam Simon and Terry Pratchett this week. Not a great week for humanism Sad

Yeah, he was a workaholics workaholic. Before he got ill the publication of new Discworld novels averaged as more than one a year. It added a certain quirky cyclical rhythm to the book world that's going to be missed. I remember with particularly fondness the posters for Jingo.

Well, that's beyond impressive. Definitely sounds like a fascinating person.

...Well this is sad.

Used to love the Discworld books back in High School.

Also was very adept at fencing and even forged his own sword.

Truly heartbreaking. I've read nearly every book of his, and he was one of the greats. A truly kindhearted man by all accounts to boot.

Also was very adept at fencing and even forged his own sword.

No $hit? How cool! Cheesy
