In recent times, Atlasia: Once a land of Communists, Liberals, and Libertarians with a small Conservative hive, a slowly growing population of another viewpoint has come to pass.

One that espouses in general: regulation on social AND fiscal levels, rather than regulation to one or the other,...or in the case of Libertarians diddly-squat regulation.

But like the other political spectrum ideologies, there is still variety among us. Some of us have greater emphasis on the social issues, others prefer the economics. Some look more like Conservatives with lip-service to leftist economics,...others look like bleeding heart-liberals who are simply pissed off at the anti-theist tracts liberalism has taken.

And of course here's personality.

Why a poll for this,...because this spectrum of open Populists is still small enough for it,but not so small as to be some anaomaly.

So yeah of those who scored + socially, - economically, who comes off the best to you?

I don't think that we really have any high-profile populists here.

Populism isn't an ideology, it's a rhetorical style. I don't know who beaver or aelrose are, but L.D. Smith is more or less a liberal, Miles a conservative, Tim Turner doesn't seem like anything that be described as having self-awareness, Hifly is very obviously a social nationalist, and turkisblau a progressive conservative ala Henry Wallace. Nothing unites these people

As long as Populist is also used as a placeholder term for the position that opposes/complements Libertarianism/Classical Liberalism...that's how I'll use it. Not to mention The Populist Party of the 1890's took positions a bit like this (along with the other use of a mere anti-elitist position)

But for appeasement sake, I've changed the title here to "Best Statist" (can't do that for the polls).

Also, from all the posts I've read from all them, they all have advocated greatly for heavy regulation socially and fiscally instead of one (the usual conservative favors social regulation, the usual commie or liberal ends to favor economic) or hardly any. But this is the mere basis, the actual execution and emphases are going to entirely different.

You included yourself in this poll.

I fit the formerly quite tiny criteria of  + social, - fiscal on all these litmus tests which is the basis for this poll, of course I'm gonna include myself.

If I were doing this for Mormons (far as I know it's just two), would you insist I exclude myself on that too?

I voted for someone else for the record.

@Mung Beans: You're too far left socially for this specific criteria, but that's okay, you're a pretty cool dude. Wink

Well this is a fun poll! Voted for Miles Tongue

I do agree that it's hard to define what a populist is.

I don't think that we really have any high-profile populists here.

Miles is definitely high-profile...

See but Miles actually is a populist so that's what I voted for. And we have plenty of statists, only a few of them in the upper left hand quadrant of the political matrix.

A lot my rhetoric and positions fit that type of populist mold as well.

But the aim here is specifically the upper left hand, which only 8 posters [including myself] have reached, if for vastly different reasons.

Wouldn't it be great if Miles actually went around day-to-day acting like this?

Probably Miles. I don't know most of the other posters listed, and he seems like a better poster than myself, so that's where my vote goes. Besides, I'm not much of a populist; a communitarian, sure, but I'm too elitist to be a populist.

I always thought of Miles as more of a blue-dog than a populist (not that there is never overlap, but the two don't necessarily go as hand-in-hand as many assume).  I could easily be wrong though.
