Cap-and-trade, if I need to choose, as I prefer taxes be used for revenue generation rather than creating a complex web of incentives that often fail to play out in the ways intended by policymakers. Perhaps it would be better to offer interest-free loans to those aiming to improve the energy efficiency of buildings and machinery? In the long-run I'd prefer the government just revoke the property-managing privileges of those found to be persistently - whether intentionally or negligently - inflicting environmental damage. The property's care can be reassigned to a more promising party applying for its use.

carbon tax, easily. cap-and-trade just creates another market that profits greatly off of environmentally destructive behaviors. the carbon tax is a more reasonable and practical proposal in general. in fact, i would like to see a carbon tax replace income taxes for the lowest earners.

None. Mans influence on climate is minimal at most. Temperatures have been going down for the last 20 years or so.

And do I have to explain the basic greenhouse effect to you?

That chart would suggest it's been going down for the past decade, if you assumed the tail end continued.  Best to use a more up to date chart:

But that does suggest it hasn't changed much in the past 10 years.

Yeah, that's the most up to date chart I could find in my ~30 second Google search. Tongue

It has leveled off in recent years, but it still is a 0.6 degree anomaly. And I would attribute the stability to increased climate change regulations and environmental precautions.
