I just recently watched The Big Short. It's based on a true story. It's about a couple hedge-fund managers who predicted the collapse of the housing market before it happened. I absolutely loved the movie. I am very interested in finance, which is why I enjoyed it.

Has anyone seen it? If so, what's your opinion of it?

Outstanding movie. Great story, all true, and it explains the complex in a clear and entertaining way. The only outrage the movie failed to catalogue was not seizing the stock of the owners of the criminal banks, and thus the owners in time, recovered their investment, while the taxpayers took the hit. The wealthy and the connected get most of the government "welfare" in this country. They are the real welfare queens. Who knew?

It's a fine, well-acted film, and I think people will take away the correct macro-message of Wall Street=dumb+evil, but both it and Lewis' book lionize the people who, by buying insurance on something they did not own (credit default swaps for the mortgage market), literally gambled against the American economy and poured gasoline on a fire.  As a result of the actions of the "heroes" of Lewis'/the film's narrative, an economic crisis turned into a full-blown depression as the banks started to fail struggling to pay out swap contracts.

While the heroes of the film were rewarded handsomely and the villains made out okay, guess who lost in all of this?  The American taxpayer and pensioners around the world.

Did Bernie decide to hack into Torie's account because he was bored on his airplane flight? Huh
