We just had our first upset of the Tourney...  3rd seed and Big 12 Conference Champs Iowa State Cyclones got bounced out of the tournament by the 14 seed UAB Blazers by a score of 60-59.  Also, 3 seed Notre Dame had a big scare from 14 seed Northeastern, but won 69-65.

14 seeds are legitimately good this year. Scary to think UAB was just the 4th best team in that conference by a lot of measures. Northeastern came out of a huge fight to get the auto. The gap between high and low seeds is much narrower than it used to be. There's always upsets, but these teams are definitely legit.

Shocked that UAB won, honestly. They played really well though, good for them.

I just hope Georgetown doesn't get too far (GW student)

Hopefully EWU takes them out in the first round.

The only bad thing about ISU losing is they were in my Final Four... The annual crashing of the brackets has begun and we're not even finished with the first wave of games...

Goodbye Baylor...  14 seed Georgia State finished off 3 seed Baylor.  This is not a good day to be in the Big 12...  I just hope 3 seed Oklahoma has better fortune against 14 seed Albany tomorrow evening...

The end of the UCLA/SMU game was ridiculous. Correct call, but hilarious nonetheless.

I'm so happy I was wrong about Utah on here. If they get to the Final Four, I'll get mad real life credibility for saying that for months. Plus they'd have to knock off potentially Georgetown and Duke along the way. That'd just be the best!

Awfully anti-climatic loss by LSU to NC State tonight Sad

We let a 16-point lead slip away. Neither team played that well, though.

I feel pretty stupid for having them lose to SF Austin.

1 seed Villanova just crashed and burned sending many more brackets to the shredder.  8 seed NC State instead is headed to the Sweet 16!

I have to say, I am ultra concerned about the Wolf Pack in Rd 2. The only thing giving me hope is that performance against Duke. Rest of the region doesn't scare me though.

Boom! I know I really hedged on both Utah and Nova by picking both ways at some point, but when I took my homer goggles off, I knew NC St was going to be too much. Didn't even bother watching the game (first time in the last two years) because I didn't want to get my expectations up for nothing like last year. Everyone was expecting way too much against a ridiculously talented and motivated team that we matched up against horribly. NC State is way better than an 8 seed.

Scary thing is that it was that close and apparently we played horrendously, so an average performance might've gotten us through.

EDIT: There must be some enormous irony in the fact that this post is the one that puts me ahead of the poster known as Jim Valvano on the all-time number of posts list.

Scratch Kansas...  The nobodies from South Central Kansas took out the big dogs (or big birds).

On the bright side, my Oklahoma Sooners are in the Sweet 16 facing Michigan State after Sparty knocked off Virginia.

How are Wichita State "nobodies"? Lol. They went to the Final Four two years ago (and lost to the national championships) and lost to the runners up last year.

I like to think that Bushie is just imitating what Jayhawk fans would say about a small-time school that they really don't like to acknowledge the existence of. I could be totally off though.

Very surprised by what's looking to be a Maryland loss. No spinning around how completely wrong I was there. We got a (sorta) old-school Appalachia brawl going down next round, but I should be careful with that choice of words:

West Virginia is all Appalachia. Demographically, Kentucky is maybe one-fifth Appalachia now.

And the rest of the brackets in America get shredded.  Kentucky gets to wear the 38-1 shirts all summer instead of the 40-0 shirts.  Oh, and no trophy for Coach Cal.
