I'm going to go with mix of both since he had authoritarian and corrupt tendencies but at the same time seemed to genuinely care for the people and didn't race bait which is more then can be said for most southern politicians of his generation.

Mixed for sure. I love his fiery economic populism. He was able to reach out to the common man. Also, he got things done, no matter what others said. Brave as all hell and admirable in his stances. That being said, I don't like his excessive power-lust. Also, he was a bit too corrupt for my tastes, but then again, Louisiana politics has never been known for being the cleanest affair.

He could be both. Huey was a very smart man and he did legitimately want to make lives for the poorest in Louisiana better. He paved roads and funded education. He greatly improved Louisiana's infrastructure.

But he was also a standoffish, greedy megalomaniac who found it virtually impossible to work with others on an equal basis. His "dee-duct" box contained millions of dollars of stolen money.

His opponents were horrible people and he certainly matched them tit for tat at times.
