I can't be the only one that notices that come 2020 and 2022, potentially most of the Senate leaders will be gone. Think about it. I think Turtleman and Corndog are done after this term. This is simple. Thune takes over then. The interesting part is the Democrats. It is an open secret that this is Durbin's last term. If Reid wins that will certainly be his last, as well as Schumer's last. I also have a feeling that Murray will call it quits in 2022. So who will be the New Democratic Leadership come 2023? And Thune's underlings for that matter besides whip Barrasso?

On the Democratic side, Klobuchar is a safe bet for leadership if she never ends up running for President. Same with Warren. I could also see Tester moving up if he does well with the DSCC

In the GOP, Portman's widely expected to take the NRSC reins in 2018 or 2020. Roy Blunt is a member of leadership, and James Lankford was a house leader.

Schumer is 65. He has good 20 years in him left. Why would he go any time soon?

Ehhh, if Republicans do well next year and it becomes clear that they aren't getting the majority back until at least 2022?

Think about it. I never said that he'd leave next year. He will definitely run again. But 72 is pushing it. MAYBE, really big maybe one more, but that's it.

72 is not pushing it in today's senate. Grassley is expected to run for a 7th term next year, and he'll be 83 on Election Day '16.

72 is just getting there in the Senate. 92 would be pushing, perhaps, though not impossible.

There will always be 2024. What else would he rather do?
