Some prominent union encouragement for Schneiderman.

What are Schneiderman's big issues? I support almost any Cuomo challenger, but I'm curious about his AG's focus, if he's going to challenge Cuomo.

Good. Hopefully that means Kathleen Rice will have a clearer shot at the AG nomination, if she still wants it.

There is no love lost between them two and Schneidermann has been consistently critical of Cuomo's administration from the left.

Was it even confirmed that Cuomo is running for a third term?

Here's to hoping some fiscon non-Cuomo Democrat makes it from the middle.

Not yet. But given his current unpopularity it's going to be an uphill battle if he does. I think his biggest challenger will be NY Mayor Bill de Blasio.

I don't see de Blasio taking that risk.

If he loses, he'll have a very bad relationship with the Governor.

He'll also have to balance it with a 2017 reelection as mayor.

Cuomo's former COS says the Governor is running for a third term, per NYDN. Gibson is apparently also considering... no idea why. Even more bizarrely he's running to Cuomo's left on education.

So how about a Republican pick up in NY for 2018?

I hope so, but it's looking more like a Republican Hold.

Gods bless Zephyr Teachout for taking a third of the Dem primary vote away from the invincible Cuomo, allowing this to become possible.

NY in 2018 won't be what it was back in '94 during the "ABC" campaign (Anyone but Cuomo - Mario).

Pataki was aided then and again in '02 by Tom Golisano's third party entrance.  With just a two man race, almost impossible and the GOP bench is so weak, it's scary.

I don't see a rising star in the NY GOP. Even Astorino was uncontested in his primary. Rudy Guliani would be too old to run for governor.

I still don't understand why David Paterson was pushed aside. He did his job well. However, de Blasio might beat Cumo if they run against each other: http://nypost.com/2014/09/15/insiders-say-de-blasio-could-beat-cuomo-for-governor-in-4-years/

I love David Paterson, but only because I'm from New Jersey.

SNL explained his job performance the best of course:

Eliot Spitzer: "Uh, who would you rather have as Governor - the prostitute guy or Mr. Disaster?"

David Patterson: "That's a tough call to make since all options are terrible. It's like judging a beauty contest in New Jersey!"

Golisano was a conservative though, right? And Pataki wasn't considered a strong candidate back in 1994 before he won (I don't think). I'd say the GOP's best of the bench is Chris Gibson, and he's considering a run.

I am not convinced Cuomo will run for a third term.  He must remember how his Dad stayed too long at the fair.

I would not be surprised if Cuomo is also a major Cabinet pick in a Hillary Clinton Administration.  He wants to be President, but any scenario that causes him to be defeated for re-election as Governor of NY ends the dream.

Cuomo isn't going to be President, period. He has pissed off too many Democratic constituencies and has become persona non grata among progressives.
Even if he somehow becomes Hillary's VP then Joe Biden's current numbers will look dominant compared with what Cuomo's will be in a hypothetical primary.
