And don't give me any bull about how you are acting like this to try to correct people, it is obvious to anybody with an above room temperature IQ level that you are doing this only to feel better about yourself. I don't have any different an opinion of you, because I've known you long enough to know that this is simply how you are and you don't care what others have to say, so I won't bother.
My concern is that you take my beliefs as being self-righteous, and you imply (or, flat out say, rather) that I only hold them so I can feel smart. I wasn't right to go on as long a tirade as I did against Iggy Azalea, and I admit I went overboard in some of my statements of her impact on culture, but to say that I hold those beliefs in the first place because I'm concerned about feeling smart is pretty harsh, and just factually incorrect.
The problem here isn't that I want to feel smart, it's that I want people to stop demeaning other people for things out of their control. You blatantly say it's wrong for a white person to use the n-word (obviously because we as a society have accepted that as wrong) and yet you have no problem with people using a term that demeans the mentally disabled, so long as it's not used in a hateful way? So is it okay for white people to say the n-word so long as it has the a at the end? Or is it okay to use the -er ending if it's meant in a friendly way?
You can't be two-faced about this. You have to apply a blanket attitude towards all slurs, not just some of them. Pardon the following terms, but I have to use them to get my point across...there's a reason why we don't say "n" anymore, and it's because the word was used out of hate. If we as a society accept that, we must accept that we can't use "retarded" or even "chink", "spic", "f****t", etc. under ANY circumstance, because all of those words are rooted in hatred as well. If someone calls one a "retard", they're not commenting literally on their mental state (in 99% of cases, at least in casual conversation) they're trying to insult that person's intelligence. They're calling them dumb. They're equating the word "retard" and being mentally handicapped with being "ordinarily stupid", or ignorant. People with mental handicaps aren't dumb, nor or they ignorant. That's why I have a problem with the usage of that word.
So if my reputation around here is that I'm the "tumblr activista" who is upset by the fact that human adults can't choose a more creative insult than "retard" or whatever, then I take no shame in that whatsoever. But it's when you call my beliefs drummed up, and attempt to paint me as just a contrarian who doesn't care about the people I'm trying to defend, but rather as someone whose interests are selfish is what I'm upset by. It's more upsetting coming from someone who knows me well enough to know that the passion I feel about certain topics is genuine.
