Lets say he runs for a third term. How would that have gone? I think Eisenhower narrowly wins a third term, but he's much less popular than he was just four years ago...

290 - Ike
247 - JFK

Doubt Papa Joe would approve of such a doomed campaign. Therefore, I don't think Kennedy would run against Eisenhower.

See, the problem with all these scenarios involving there not being a 22nd Amendment is that even when there wasn't one, no President ran (seriously), for a third term. And the man to run for a third term wouldn't have been Ike.

Anyway, Ike probably does win by the map above. But as tara pointed out, JFK probably wouldn't have ran. Maybe LBJ would have, though, and won.

I think that Joe would make Kennedy run in 60' against Ike. I think that either JFK loses the primaries, to a more experienced candidate (Like LBJ). Or He runs against Ike and attacks him on a platform of Age. I don't have a winner at this point, those are my opinions. (BTW No 22nd, Would Reagan run?)

Eisenhower is still sufficiently popular to win decisively. Kennedy's Catholicism helps him a little in the Northeast, but hurts him in the South. With many states with somewhat close races, Ike handily wins the electoral college.

Ike/Nixon    52.9%  437
JFK/LBJ       46.5%    92

Ulysses S. Grant and both of the Roosevelts come to mind. I agree that Ike was unlikely to run in '60, though.
