If your legs or arms aren't moving, it isn't exercise.

Uh, Standing up for your rights is. Ever seen the bicep on that solidarity fist?

(Sorry for not taking this seriously. I didn't realize that was an exact quote. Now I'm in tears. RIP weight loss)

It is exercise, but if that's the most strenuous exercise you can tolerate, you probably don't have long to live unless you are recovering from a severe illness and standing is part of your physical therapy.

I'd imagine it being rather strenuous if you have a lot of extra weight.

^^^

correct answer.

i am a thin. (about 165-170 and 6'2") and standing all day can be exhausting for me.  maybe that comes with age?  i cant imagine how hard it will be for odf at 5'6" 300 lbs.

Quite false, actually. Standing is exercise in some sense, but not enough that it can be an actual part of a workout regimen.

Bushie should try some yoga or Pilates.

You need a minimum of agility for that.

I think overweight people can do some modified versions. There are no severely overweight people in any of my classes, but I've heard that quite old and inflexible people can pick it up relatively quickly.

It takes a degree of energy to stand, as it does to pick up a pen and sign your name to something, but standing is decidedly not exercise. Minimal energy expenditure to qualify as exercise would probably be a brisk walk for at least a half mile to a mile. Back, knee, hip, weight, etc. problems might prevent people from standing for long periods of time, but it's not exercise.
