I put "orientation" since while the Democrats are not social democratic they are nonetheless of a centre-left orientation.

Yeah, Gnarr has left politics (for now). The ones that wanted to continue with politics merged into the Social Liberal, environmentalist and Europhile Bright Future (which already had their key policy developer - a female political scientist - as co-chairman) and lost badly in the last municipal election.

Why in God's name would anyone have a "favourite political party" regardless of "ideology". What other possible grounds are there for supporting a political party?

Wtf

I quite like the Norwegian Venstre party. Not the Danish Venstre party though.

Otherwise it's hard to say. :/

There is something fascinating about a party being able to dominate a democracy to such an extent right from the beginning of modern politics. The mere fact that 10% of adult Icelanders are members and they have more members than all other parties combined is pretty impressive. And unlike other natural government parties like Fianna Fail, Liberal Democrats in Japan and PRI they do have a coherent ideology and are not solely a party of power.

There's something about the LDP in Japan that gets my admiration - even though I somewhat dislike their nationalism.  They've held power ever since 1956 excepting two periods that combined total four years.

The Netherlands - D66
Mexico - PAN

I like the PAN because they're not the PRI and have a reformist tendency that could be described as somewhat progressive. The PAN is also one of the few right-wing parties that isn't entirely anti-poor.

Venstre in Norway is the obvious answer. (I assume D66 and Denmark's Social Liberals are too close to my actual ideology to count here.) As is– on my other flank– SYRIZA, given the circumstances.  I kinda have some affection for the Nationals in New Zealand, as well, and would probably approve of some sort of tiny center-right liberal GooGoo anti-Peronist party in Argentina as well, assuming it actually exists. I don't actually know.

Italia - Partito Democratico (I would vote for M5S, but prefer PD to Forza Italia and am cool with Renzi)
Deutschland - SPD (I support CDU)
UK - Labour (support Conservatives)
Canada - Liberals (support Conservatives)
Spain - PSOE (would support PODEMOS)
Greece - New Democracy (support SYRIZA)
South Africa - ANC (support Democratic Alliance)

That's really all I can think of right now.

What a strange assortment of parties to support

The ideological difference between these three parties is negligible. Venstre and Radikale Venstre (Social Liberals) are almost identical both in ideology and social composition of membership and electorate.

Do you consider Venstre to be to the left of the two other parties? Why?

I assume because Venstre ally with the conservative block and the social liberals ally with the red block, he is implying that Venstre is to the right of the SL party.

Supporting CDU and SYRIZA doesn't make a lot of sense.
