This has enough votes to fail. I let 24 hours for the senators who haven't voted yet to vote.

Abstain (1): Polnut
Non voting (1): SWE

Cris' amendment has failed to pass the senate.

A final vote is now open. Please vote AYE NAY or Abstain. (sorry I thought I had already done that)

Mr Speaker, could you provide us with the final version of the bill that senators are voting on?

Nay

It's too much money for a program that I'm not convinced should exist. I believe my vision for this program is much different than the vision that some members expressed on the floor; I don't feel comfortable voting to enable that. I do not want a transformation of our financial system. It's pretty unfortunate that people weren't willing to vote for Senator Cris's sensible amendment.

Yes (Aye).

I also like the idea of the Postal Service doing this because in addition to access I think it would also improve transparency.

If we are to get through with this, it will have its costs.

Nay

I like the idea and the sentiment behind this, but I still think that it's too much money and I'm still disappointed that the Senate has not passed my amendment for a reduction of the money.

I'm voting NAY on this, because I think we should be more conservative in the first instance and then increase appropriations on demand.

After some thought I have decided to sign this. This expansion of the post office will genuinely be helpful for, especially rural elderly people and will hopefully save them, and others, time and money. The cost may seem a lot but as has already been mentioned quite a large amount is needed initially and we should be able to, fairly quickly, break even and recoup our losses.  Also the way this bill is written means we do not have to give the whole 200 million and we are not committed to indefinite subsidies.

I'd like to extend a special thanks to SoIA Barnes for writing this bill

While I did vote against this, I do hope it actually delivers what is intended. I dare say, it was a reluctant nay.

I thank the Senate very genuinely for passing this bill. The Department of Internal Affairs will begin implementation immediately. I will work personally with the Postmaster General to get this program running.
