I could get complicated and specific with it, but really the simplest way I could think of describing it is secular conservatism. Basically just American style conservatism without the religious right elements when it comes down to it.

When asked by "normal" people I usually just go with "conservative".

Of the more specific terms, my views are best described as social conservative"or traditional conservative. On economics, I could probably described as moderately conservative, anthropocentric, or perhaps even rust belt populist.

Social democrat
Environmentalist/Green
Left-libertarian tendencies
Christian Left

In terms of American political stereotypes, Fox might say that I fit the coffee-sipping, New Yorker-reading, hybrid-driving, smug, snarky, elitist liberal brand.

I'd rather be that than any of the stereotypes that come with being a Republican. Smiley

Communist (in the sense of the term as described by Marx and Engels and put into effective practice by the Bolsheviks in Russia from the period between 1917 and 1928. I am a communist because I believe that communism represents the final stage in the struggle for democracy, i.e. the conquest of the means of production by the producers and the opening up of the first real stage of actual human history for the vast majority of humanity. I believe that the workers should own and manage the places in which they work and should be fully free to pursue the full development of their own personality, without the distorting influence of wealth and monetary gain)
Marxist (Marx fleshed out dialectical materialism, which is essentially the historical and social equivalent to the Theory of Evolution, as well as helping us understand the way that capitalist society works.)
Leninist (What Marx did for theory, Lenin did for practice. Lenin helped develop the theory of how a revolutionary party should operate, what its goals should be, and what it should do to realize those goals. Contrary to accusations from anarchists and liberals alike, the Leninist party model, in its genuine sense, is not antidemocratic. It is centralized, yes, but it allows for full freedom of debate and unity in action.)
Trotskyist (Socialism must be International or it is nothing.)
Trade Unionist (Workers must be organized in trade unions, which provide the only effective and efficient means, aside from the revolutionary party, of combating capitalism at the point of production)
Republican (the democratic republic is the highest form of human social organization. Only under socialism can its distortions be fully removed, and only under communism can democracy be fully moved from a representative (yet participatory) system to a system of the direct rule of the producers themselves, perhaps upon the Athenian model.
Libertarian (ideas must be freely propagated, the sacred profaned, and the right of every person to do as they wish (so long as they don't imperil others or the safety of the community) respected)

I find it hard to believe that anyone would apply those labels to themself, unironically, in 2015. Tongue

Haha so do I, I've got no idea how I've ended up with that, I'm actually quite fickle in regards to ideology

Urgh - labels are great for conveying complex ideas with very few words but my convictions do not neatly fit under any of them. I guess a longer list is needed?

Abolitionist (death penalty, nuclear arms), allophile, anti-authoritarian, anti-dominionist, anti-imperialist, anti-islamist, anti-zionist, bourdieuan / weberian, civic nationalist, civil libertarian, constitutional republican, constructivist (foreign affairs), continentalist, cosmopolitan, decentralist, democrat (representative), democratic socialist, egalitarian, elitist, federalist, fiscal conservative, globalist, green, humanitarian, individualist, interculturalist, leftist, liberal feminist, liberal internationalist, market socialist, ordoliberal, personist, pluralist, pragmatist, preservationist (environment), pro-choice, pro-Israeli, pro-Palestinian, pro-reunification (Korea), radical, red, reformist, secularist, sentiocentrist, social liberal, socialist, universalist, and world federalist.

Several are probably missing from here but it'll work I guess. In local politics I use "democratic socialist" and accept that most folks won't understand what it means.

I swing depending upon my mood and upon external economic factors.  On good days I may be identified as Lockean, more or less, with a tendency toward existentialist neoliberalism.

On bad days I want to be a radical revolutionary.  Well, my level of commitment to both liberty and equality becomes tantamount to that of the revolutionary, but my recognition of other principles causes hesitation because my lifestyle simply cannot accommodate the commitments of a full-time insurrectionist, even though I support, in principle, lending my spare time to all kinds of subversive behavior.  I might try to model alternative ways of living, but even on my worst days I have neither the time nor the inclination to put my efforts and fortune into the cause.

Today is a medium day, neither bad nor good.  On such days I'm sort of a bemused apolitical centrist.

You seem to have found some profit in my post.  Of course the humor that I intended was not of the wet variety, but indeed if it caused you to laugh out loud, then I'm glad to have been of service.

Cynicism.

Distrust of systematic ideology. Sympathy for those actual people who are victimized in the name of the People. General distaste for all intellectual projects to recreate society.
