Anyone want to join me in voting off Coolidge?

Tell me one thing he did right as president...he tried to keep the government out of the economy, and ensure peace through the Kellogg-Briand Pact.  We all know how those turned out a few years later.

There are some worse Presidents on the list, particularly George W. Bush.

Nixon is still on the island? Jesus Christ. Grant today, Nixon tomorrow, Monroe the day after must be our motto. Smiley

What's so bad about Monroe?

Fair enough; I will vote for GWB in Round 10 and resume my Coolidge campaign once he gets voted off.

I actually think Bush has done more good things for the country than Coolidge ever did.  Whether he has also done more bad things remains to be seen.

I'm glad Hayes got voted off, for all of you who think W stole 2000, look at the results on this site.  Hayes got +1 vote in the EVs and that's it, he lost by more than 2% of the PV.

He won the dullest election ever even though he was considered incompetent by quite a lot of people who knew him. Oh, and he was an unapologetic slaveholder, and an aristocrat through and through.
I just don't like him any.

Can we please get rid of Zachary Taylor soon, I was disappointed we had to lose A Johnson over him.

I was disappointed we had to lose either of them. I wanted to rid us of Grant, which appears to be what we're now doing.
And please, please, please can we get rid of Tricky Dick.

Sounds like a reasonable next step to me.  He would be our second 20th century pres to go.  After him, I'd go to either Wilson or LBJ for the next 20th century pick.

It looks like my man (Pierce) is safe for at least one more round as Grant has the large lead. However, the amount of people who have voted for him nonetheless is distressing.

Do you really want to vote off:

The man who made the 500k residents of Tucson Americans (via the gadsden purchase)?

The man who allowed important WWII islands like Midway to be claimed (via the Guano act)?

The man who made the United States the first western nation to have trade with Japan (via Perry's voyage)?

The man who didn't need a teleprompter (or any notes whatsoever) for his inaugural speech?

The man who actually vetoed bills when they were unconstitutional? (note: the Kansas-Nebraska act may have been morally corrupt, but it was constitutional)

The man whose Navy secretary and Postmaster general made invaluable contributions to their departments which still exist today?

The man who gave his level best a president despite his last living child being killed in a train wreck on the way to Washington?

The man who STOOD ON PRINCIPLE rather than act on what was popular?

I agree about Jefferson and Truman.   But I don't know if JFK has enough appeal amongst the Republicans to make it that far.   The guys who will make it to the final 5 will be somebody that has appeal amongst both parties.   That's why FDR, Reagan, Lincoln, and GWB will not make it that far.

Washington needs to go soon, along with Lincoln. Final will be Teddy Roosevelt and Harry Truman most likely.

Is anybody surprised by any of the results so far?  Is there anybody who has been voted out in the 1st 10 that you thought would last longer?   And is there anybody who's still in the game that you thought for sure would be out by now?

He was a really terrible president, and I'll vote to eliminate him in Round 12 if the libs help me eliminate segregationist Wilson in Round 11.

No he was not. He signed things he shpuld not have. But no one can please you. You are so anti-government and anti-spening you should want to eliminate all Presidents next time. They all tried to do some spending.

Besides, Hoover made the best with a bad situation. His works projects were mostly local, still heavily relied on the Red Cross to give aide, and was the pioneer of how Presidents would always act in financial crisis.

Hoover made the modern Presidency. Phillip, in your fantasy world a Red Uprsing would not have happened if Hoover said, "hey screw you. I am not doing anything." Face it, a Depression needed government interaction. Hoover was wrong to raise taxes, yes, but we must remember at the time it was viewed as a good idea. As was Hwley-Smoot. Hindsight is 20/20.

The federal government is for foreign policy, some limited utilities, and settling trade disputes.

I understand that people thought big government was a good idea during the Great Depression, though they were mistaken. Anyway, big state government is far better than big federal government. Stick to the Constitution, and let states have public works projects if they want.
