Will Cruz win anything?

Even TX doesnt have Cruz leading.

I think he will provide good rhetoric and will get standing ovations but not many votes.

No.  He's a demonstrable loon beyond even the Republican caucus goer's tastes.

He definitely could win the whole thing. But he'll more likely pull out with South Carolina and a couple of other southern states.

Nah.  There are far more sane Republicans that are well enough into conservative la-la-land to win and make sure Cruz is painted as the nutjob he is.

If this was a more 2012 like environment, with only two Southern candidates, then yes, but considering there will be more of them in 2016, I doubt it.

Here are the states that I think Ted Cruz has a chance of winning in the Republican Primary (even then it might be a bit generous for him):

If he doesn't win any of the first four contests (IA/NH/NV/SC), then he's unlikely to win anything after that.  Probably not even Texas.

Maybe (but I doubt it), he'll probably have at least one flavor of the month moment.  Walker will be the nominee though.

I think the field is going to reduce quickly after Iowa to Bush, Walker, and Rand with maybe a fourth like Rubio. Everyone else will be jockeying for VP. So no.

It's certainly possible in a scenario where his base of support helps him win repeatedly in a divided field, until people rally around a single anti-Cruz candidate.

I could see him winning some early states like Iowa/Colorado/South Carolina.
If he started winning early states like Iowa and South Carolina, he would be winning a lot more primaries. But he's not going to win Iowa(he's against farm subsidies), and he's probably not going to win South Carolina either.

We all remember "Caucus," the Roman Senator, who instead of holding a simple election, created a new complicated system where citizens must inconveniently gather at a specific time and location, announce their support publicly, and then try to bully other individuals to support that candidate. Several historians have attributed the fall of the Roman Empire to this unusual practice.

You are aware that 'caucus' is an English adaptation of the Algonquian word cau'-cau'-as'u (loosely meaning 'counsel' or 'advise'), right?

That hasn't stopped people from gaining traction in Iowa before.

If he does it has to be early. I don't like his chances.

In the English-language version of Asterix and the Big Fight (Le Combat des chefs), one of the Roman soldiers is called "Felonius Caucus".
