I'm of the understanding that he ran specifically on support for the death penalty in 1994 (among other things, obviously, but still). HP.

Moderates aren't bad. Moderate heroes - people who define themselves as moderate for no reason other than to satisfy the gods of moderation - are pests.

And yes, Pataki is dreadful, and represents an aspect of the GOP that is thankfully dead.

It's not that ideologues don't *like* moderates politically.  They often assert moderates have no conviction or think about the issues less or are less passionate about their stances, which is unfair.
