Seriously. Why? I think it an all-female ticket would be even more historic, really force the GOPs hand, and completely change the narrative of the race.

Because people are sexist. We thought nothing about all male running mates-in fact the only 50/50 one's since WW2 have both lost, and both picked very bad women to run.

It's just because voters for some stupid reason don't trust two women because 'they're weak on leadership, they're shrill, they only care about female issues' or some other bollocks, Yet people are happy to have all white, all male tickets 90% of the time

She can choose a woman. Clinton/Warren could work.

I do believe consensus is she is best served by selecting a minority running mate and the two best choices (IMO) are both males in Cory Booker and Julian Castro.

Who is arguing that? I haven't heard this brought up by anyone with any credibility.

Julian Castro is the obvious pick for VP, and he has already been vetted for his Cabinet post, so he can't have any gigantic skeletons in the closet.

It's safer to go with a male running mate.

The bench is bigger, especially when it comes to swing states or ethnic/ racial minorities.

And if she goes with another woman, it might be used to reinforce negative impressions of her. It could end up being a net positive if Republicans say anything stupid that helps off turn off female voters, but the Democrats may not want something with any major risks.

What the impression that she cares about women?

They presumably wouldn't want the impression she cares about women more than men.

Hillary Clinton as a presidential contender is an inspiration to daughters.

Hillary/ Klobuchar might have to deal with accusations of radicalism.

Why did Obama need to choose a white running mate?

Why did the first 43 Presidents have to be white men?

It would be great progress to have an all female ticket or a minority VP candidate.

But minorities will probably vote Democratic anyway, so I would say picking a midwestern white guy would perhaps increase the white vote for the Democrats and thus ensure a victory in 2016.

The only reason it was reasonably close in 2012 was the deficit Obama had with white voters. If you close that and keep your advantage among minority voters a victory is almost guaranteed.

All in all I would say that somebody like Mark Dayton would be a very safe pick. If I were Hillary Clinton, I would choose somebody like him.

Why are running mates still a major part of the election?

Why should she should choose a female VP just to be "even more historic?" That is a terrible priority, and I doubt history is going to see her campaign as more historic just because of her VP choice being a female.

She should base it on who is best qualified to be a heartbeat away from the Presidency, and who gives her an electoral advantage.

Dan Quayle becoming actual Vice President proves it really doesn't matter who you pick.

They're not.

For the most part, the main rule is to avoid doing harm.

There may be a situation where a running mate will give a ticket credibility. For example, if John McCain had agreed to run with John Kerry in 2004.

Combining these, I'd imagine Hillary will not pick a woman, unless it can give a strong message in the GE (IE- a unity ticket with Susan Collins.) That's very unlikely.

The polls that I have seen have shown Hillary doing badly with men in head to heads and favorability. As 2014 has shown the male vote matters especially when men are voting for the other side in a landslide. I don't think Hillary can win on the women vote alone.

She doesn't have to, but it's undeniable that some men in this country wouldn't be comfortable with an all-female ticket.

For much the same reason Barack Obama was well-advised to pick a white male running-mate in 2008.  This country simply isn't ready yet for an all-minority and/or all-women ticket.  At least not with our current demographics.  Perhaps in another generation or two.

Martin O'Malley would be a terrible pick as VP.

O'Malley is if you took all the worst aspects of John Kerry as a candidate and merged them with all the worst aspects of John Edwards as a candidate--dull, aristocratic, pushover, with paper thin ideas. All he needs to do is cheat on his wife and he's good to go.

The problem with O'Malley is that he wants to be president too badly. I'm not saying he would do anything, but if I were president, I wouldn't feel comfortable with him as my VP.

Actually the first 43.5 Presidents were white men.
