Excellent news, of course.  He'll get his day in court to disprove it.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A U.S. official says the Army sergeant who abandoned his post in Afghanistan and was held by the Taliban for five years will be court martialed on charges of desertion and avoiding military service.

Good. If he has a defense, let's hear it, but all the evidence points to the fact that he abandoned his post and caused his fellow soldiers to get killed.

Have any of the Bergdahl detractors in this thread served in the military? Do they know the hell of war?

I'm fine with convicting him, but surely they'll just sentence him to time served. He's been punished far more severely than he deserves.

He'll plead out to a dishonorable discharge and no jail.  This won't be a 24 hour news cycle trial.
