Endorsements make the biggest difference early on. So major figures in IA and NH like Bob Vander Platz or Kelly Ayotte are big and of course the major papers in NH and IA.

Big Money guys, but yes, Bob Vander Plaats is an important one too if they're the type of candidate to win Iowa.

Kay Bailey Hutchison has endorsed Jeb Bush. The fact that she did this before he's even officially announced his candidacy suggests she is well aware of just how irrelevant her endorsement is. And of course, she did it on MSNBC, which is basically the only news network she has ever been willing to appear on (I think she and Chris Matthews may share a love that dare not speak its name). To think, she might have become governor and then it really would have counted for something...

Don't forget the all-important Murdoch endorsement.

Adelson, Kochs, Limbaugh, Hannity, Vander Plaats, Ernst, Grassley, Branstad, Ayotte, Sununu, Haley, Scott, Graham (if he doesn't run), Romney.

Many of these people probably won't actually endorse though.

We can thank Sheldon Adelson for President Gingrich. We can thank Sean Hannity for President Giuliani.   No, the only endorsement that matters is the Ghost of Ronald Reagan.

Nobody said the endorsers were kingmakers. But they're still highly relevant. Without Gingrich and Santorum's sugar daddies, they would've been minor blips rather than people capable of actually winning primaries and posing a threat to Romney.

Mitt Romney, Grover Norquist, and the Koch Brothers

Really? Is there anyone out there who waits to hear Mitt's opinion to make up his own mind?

I think Mitt Romney's endorsement will be much like Gore's in 2004... serve to tank whoever is the frontrunner.

Adelson, Koches and Tea Party groups... The GOP base will turn out elected officials that endorse/vote for "moderates" so they might not bother-especially in Iowa/New Hampshire/Nevada, which are swing states at most levels.
