Of course. One of the best things about scene music: all liberal, all the time.

There are few few musicians in the world with my point of view, but that's okay because I'm not looking to be coddled by my music, I'm looking for interesting perspectives. Which is why I love Bjork.

I don't know if your comment is to be taken ironically, but some musicians are extremely conservative, such as Gene Simmons or Pat Boone.
Many Most musicians, on the other hand, are socially liberal, while being fiscally moderate or even conservative at the same time, such as Adele, TLC, 50 Cent, LL Cool J or Madonna.

True lefties among singers (like Cher or Michael Jackson) are a rarity.

Those are not regular musicians, but music stars. A small sub-sample among musicians, who are generally a low income group and quite left wing.

BRTD, part of developing a mature and well-rounded ideology, or mature and well-rounded opinions in general, is recognizing not only that other people's views differ from yours, but recognizing why they differ from yours, so that, if you continue to reject them, you do so from a position of good faith and mutual understanding. One way of doing this is by consuming media produced by people with different perspectives on the world. I read Dostoyevsky not because I'm a nineteenth-century Slavophile but (among other reasons) because I'm interested in how nineteenth-century Slavophilia operated. Flannery O'Connor wasn't great on race (although she wasn't as terrible as the title of 'The Artificial [redacted]' would imply out of context), but she's my favorite American writer because her attitudes are revelatory about Christianity, mental and physical illness, and modern American life in general--Wise Blood in particular is weirdly similar to Update in some respects. And so on and so forth.

So BRTD, what other things need to be "all liberal, all the time"...will this go to how you like your potatoes? Brown booze or clear booze or gasp NO BOOZE? Are goatees conservative or liberal too?

It never occurred to you that the main aspect of things might just be divorced from politics and enjoyable in their own right?

What's next? Can't watch a John Wayne movie because he voted for Barry Goldwater? Planet of the Apes is pointless because Charlton Heston became a wingnut? Is Gran Torino rendered moot because Eastwood's a Republican who lambasted Obama? Is the films general message against racism, violence , and war now suddenly void because the director's no liberal?

Gran Torino is a garbage movie, to be fair. And everything is political, MormDem, don't be silly.

Gran Torino was enjoyable, though the acting outside of Eastwood was terrible.

But being silly is so much fun, especially in a land of grumpy gills Very Serious People Wink

@Monarch: I dunno about that, the main kid was adequate enough...the rest were pretty bad though.

I think Bob Dylan is an economic populist, with small hints of conservatism here and there. Certainly not the Social Justice icon he used to be. But who knows? He is Bob Dylan. Bob Dylan is what Bob Dylan is.

Most of the bands that I listen to that are politically involved (Enter Shikari, Rage Against The Machine, etc.) share my views...but mostly because they shaped them. For a long time, I was a conservative/libertarian singing along to lyrics such as "f--k all borders/and f--k all boundaries/f--k all flags/and f--k nationalities"

Yeah I'm actually not a fan of any of those. In fact I boycotted Gran Torino when it first came out specifically because of Eastwood's politics.
