So BRTD, what other things need to be "all liberal, all the time"...will this go to how you like your potatoes? Brown booze or clear booze or gasp NO BOOZE? Are goatees conservative or liberal too?

It never occurred to you that the main aspect of things might just be divorced from politics and enjoyable in their own right?

What's next? Can't watch a John Wayne movie because he voted for Barry Goldwater? Planet of the Apes is pointless because Charlton Heston became a wingnut? Is Gran Torino rendered moot because Eastwood's a Republican who lambasted Obama? Is the films general message against racism, violence , and war now suddenly void because the director's no liberal?

Yeah I'm actually not a fan of any of those. In fact I boycotted Gran Torino when it first came out specifically because of Eastwood's politics.

Of course. One of the best things about scene music: all liberal, all the time.

I don't know if your comment is to be taken ironically, but some musicians are extremely conservative, such as Gene Simmons or Pat Boone.
Many Most musicians, on the other hand, are socially liberal, while being fiscally moderate or even conservative at the same time, such as Adele, TLC, 50 Cent, LL Cool J or Madonna.

True lefties among singers (like Cher or Michael Jackson) are a rarity.

And what does that have to do with the type of music I listen to?

I know I already made this point more extensively in an earlier post in this thread, but nobody seems to have cared about it, so I'll condense it to a sound bite: Cultivating a confirmation bias on purpose is really, really unseemly and absolutely pointlessly limiting.

Definitely not, probably my favorite band of all time was the Ramones despite the fact that Johnny Ramone was a huge Republican.

BRTD's life could, with minimal changes, be written as a dark satire on the life of a modern liberal.

How many modern liberals are Ingress-playing, hardcore show-going evangelical Christians though? And removing those aren't really "minimal changes".

No, I am liberal compared to the artists I listen to.  Contemporary Christian music artists are by and large quite conservative, and I am not.  We agree on some issues, but not enough to warrant Option 2, so I chose Option 3.

I don't know the political leanings of most musicians I listen to, and I'm happy with that.

Toby Keith's libertarian-leaning right-wing views are probably close to me, but it doesn't affect my enjoyment of his music either way.

I do find that if a musician is too obnoxious with their politics (usually in a true leftist sort of way), it becomes harder for me to enjoy them, but that's fairly rare.

I'm pretty sure some of The Beach Boys are Republican. Not any of the talented ones, but some of them. That's one.

Put me in the camp that thinks it's an obvious sign of insecurity in your beliefs and "pointlessly limiting" to (proudly) only listen to music by people that agree with you politically.

Also not surprised at all by the people claiming this to be true about them.  Insecure and limiting fits their posting history too.

I hate this argument so much. Anytime someone says a bad poster should be banned, someone always says this.

Like holy s**t dude, watch a movie, go outside, learn to play an instrument, pick up a new drug habit, or any other form of entertainment that isn't the occasional dumb poll on the off-topic board of an Internet forum for out-of-touch PoliSci majors.
