P.S. I saw RogueBeaver's post but I think this deserves an entirely new thread.

Already posted in the NV thread. Masto will be the Dem candidate, Roberson the likely Pub candidate. There may still be a Pub primary.

Congratulations Sen. Reid. Enjoy your retirement in 2017. I remember in 2004 when Reid replaced Daschle my teacher said he was too DLC.  But he didn't turn out to be DLC

Maybe this is the reason why Horsford didn't seek a rematch for his old House seat?
Then again, after last year's defeat, local and national Democrats might not be so enthusiastic about him.

I Have It As Lean R. The Nevada Democratic bench is somewhat weak.

Ralston says no one knew apart from the Reids until a week ago. Also: Reid didn't "want to be the old senile guy in the Senate."

He was probably going to lose reelection anyways so this probably increases the chances the democrats hold this seat.

Sad day in Senate history. Now we can only hope McConnell is next.

Lol, you don't know Harry Reid at all, do you?

I definitely respect Reid for this. As much as I love Robert Byrd, he passed the time that he should have retired by a long shot.

This argument got old and Reid probably knew it. He only won in 2010 because he was facing angle Roberson or Krolicki would have sent this man to the nursing home and he knew that so he probably decided to go out on his own terms

Warren for Minority Leader???

Out of the realistic choices, I'd prefer Durbin to Schumer.

Durbin over Schumer in a heartbeat, but we all know Schumer will be the next minority/majority leader.

Good news for Republicans, but don't assume this will be an easy R pick-up. Strong bench or not, Nevada has become a very tough state demographically for Republicans, especially in presidential years. This is a toss-up at best.

Politico Great Mentioner for Pubs includes Sandoval, Heck, Laxalt and Knecht. First 2 are firm no. Ralston previously said Hutchison is unlikely, rather he wants to be governor.

I'm wondering why Heck would still be a firm no after this announcement.

This is great news for conservatives.  My aunt and uncle in Las Vegas are probably celebrating.  My aunt even predicted this just a couple weeks ago.  It won't be an easy R pick up as a previous poster eluded to, but anybody should be better than Reid.  As far as Democratic leader in the Senate, I echo the preference for Dick Durbin.  I'm actually following him on my Facebook and am quite interested to read anytime he posts.  I don't agree with everything he says, but he is a good Senator and has represented Illinois very well.

I'm really worried about this seat now.
