Remember how godawful the 2010 campaign was to follow?

I'll miss Reid's ability to prevent any viable Republican from running against him, but hopefully another Democrat will have an easier time getting elected than he has.

Reid endorses Schumer as his successor, says Schumer will likely be acclaimed as Dem leader next year.

As a liberal, I wasn't too fond of Reid beyond his ability to frustrate Republicans.

As a Mormon Democrat, I'm sad. Reid was the only Mormon Democrat in the Senate, and he always took pride in the fact that he was a Mormon and a Democrat. He encouraged younger Mormons to be Democrats if they wanted to, and he attended church just like any other Mormon, so his faith was no fig leaf.

I hope that the strongest Dem candidate wins the nomination and wins against the Republican nominee, but I can't help but hope that the strongest candidate is a Mormon Dem like Mo Denis (though I know he's not).

He wants Chuck Schumer to succeed him as leader of Senate Democrats.

Reid has spoken to Masto and publicly endorsed her as his successor. Presumably she gets in soon.

Lean D. I can't see Republicans winning against a decent Dem candidate in a presidential year. If anything the chance of holding this seat has gone up.

Also GODDAMMIT I HATE CHUCK SCHUMER

Praise the Lord!!! The senate is forever improved!

Except Reid was one of the best Majority Leaders of recent times. Leaps and bounds better than Frist, the racist Lott, and of course McConnell.

McConnell is better because he's very open to debate and amendments. Reid never allowed them because he was afraid of his caucus having tough votes.

Do the Democrats have anyone to run for Reid's seat? Is Carolyn Goodman, mayor of Las Vegas, well liked in the state? Any up and coming latino members of the state legislature?

Farewell to a massive FF. Hopefully the Senator will enjoy his retirement and hopefully we can hold this seat in 2016.

It's Nevada in a presidential year so it doesn't lean R. And the Nevada Democratic Party is so horrible so it's not lean D either.

Moves from Lean D to Toss-up. This'll be fun to see. Masto v. a moderate or a nutter. Here's to hoping Angle and/or Lowden stay the heck away.

No, McConnell is infinitely worse than Reid because since 2009 he turned senate into a travesty with his scorched earth tactics and abuse of the filibuster.

Titus said she's giving it serious thought and Masto wouldn't impact her plans.

I'd be more worried about a Laxalt or Knecht candidacy, tbh.  Adam Laxalt (a.k.a. Dominici's bastard) in particular should scare the hell out of Republicans right now.

...aaaaand there goes what little attachment to the Republican-lites that I had. Maybe if they weren't latched onto Wall Street like Retromike latches onto the gays on here, we on the left could actually get things done instead of circlejerk about "moderation".

Likely Former Attorney General Catherine Masto, but Congresswoman Dina Titus is looking at the race seriously.

And X, yes, the Nevada GOP needs to watch for those nutters/failures too. Yikes, there are a lot of potential landmines!

Everyone take off your partisan glasses and look at facts. Reid was an atrocious leader. He blocked amendment discussion left and right, filed the tree like nothing else, pushed only his party's agenda through, and shat on the minority's rights.

Who knows? Maybe we can finally get a damn Fed audit now.

I doubt business leaders and the big banks will allow an audit of the Fed.
