The results are in:

Winston Peters, New Zealand First, 54.0
Mark Osborne, National, 39.9
Willow-Jean Prime, Labour, 4.6
Eight other candidates: 1.4

Majority 14.1% (4,012)

NZ First gain from National

I think its fairly common for leaders of small parties to run in byelections no matter where they are.

It looks like the Labour leader gave his base the tip to vote for Peters.

The National candidate was also an unknown entity.
