Just as the title says. Name your favorite politician (past or present) and any issues you find yourself disagreeing with them on.

Uh, who's my favorite current politician? Hard to tell, but I guess that would be Nichi Vendola.

My main disagreement with him would be on electoral/institutional reform. I support Renzi's reforms with very minor reservations, and don't appreciate the Italian Left's tendency of fearmongering about "muh dictatorship"

U.S. (Present): Bernard Sanders

* Congressional pay
* Corporate tax rates
* Eminent domain usage
* Economic stimulus spending
* GMO labeling mandate
* Gun control measures
* Income tax deductions
* International commerce
* Internet gambling restrictions
* Military recruitment restrictions
* Minimum wage increases
* Nuclear energy
* Single-issue advertising ban
* SS retirement age and CPI
* Third-trimester abortions
* Tort reform (health care)

U.S. (Historic): Eugene Debs

World (Present): José Mujica

World (Historic): Nelson Mandela

If anyone knows of a good resource detailing their positions on specific policies I'll fill these all out. Otherwise I have nothing to use right now to use for finding contrasts and would rather avoid an all-afternoon scavenger hunt online for suitable resources! Any other recommendations for people to look at would be welcomed, as well, seeing as there are likely folks I'd like more than those listed above.

I don't have a favorite politician. I guess Hillary is the one I admire the most, and I disagree with her on the Assault Weapons Ban.

I'll name one of them. Bernie Sanders.
Disagree with him on: Israel policy, gun policy earlier on in his career

I disagree with Mujica's approach to Luis Suarez's ear biting.

Hubert Humphrey: Would have disagreed with him on Vietnam strategy (at least until 1968), and race-based affirmative action

Huey Long supported the death penalty, even to the point of firing one of his staffers who didn't agree, IIRC.

Socialist Alternative has a completely wrong position on police officers (it regards them as 'workers in uniform', IIRC), is too tepid on the Israel-Palestine issue, and has a tendency to engage in economistic deviations from genuine Marxism.

The horror!

What the heck is "economistic deviations"?

I see. Basically caring about the living conditions of real workers instead of preparing for the glorious revolution.

"the Economists belittled the significance of revolutionary theory and class-consciousness, asserted that socialist ideology could emerge from the spontaneous movement, denied the need for a Marxist party to instil socialist consciousness into the working-class movement, and thereby cleared the way for bourgeois ideology"

Yeah, rejecting of "economism" in the name of the Great Revolution To Come constitutes the original sin of Marxism, and explains much of what is wrong with TNF's worldview.

Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren are my favorites; I think I disagree with Bernie's view on nuclear power (isn't he totally against it?), and if I remember correctly, Warren is a bit hawkish.

I disagree with Rand Paul on abortion, same-sex marriage, fighting ISIS, and Israel aid.
