My interest in politics has sharply decreased recently (although my interest levels will probably rise up again once the Iowa caucuses begin), which is why I never post on here anymore. I then decided to make this thread. What are your interests other than politics?

Geography and history, obviously, but those are pretty intertwined with politics.

Outside of the social science, I've long been interested in animals and astronomy.  I could also add electricity, food, and music.

I'm not paying as much attention to politics as I used to, the reason why i'm not very active. I'll show up for Atlasia and to read International elections and look at the maps, but I haven't been in the mood to contribute information or insights myself.

Lately I've been busy with school and friends.
My interests include science, math, history, geography, social science, video games, along with politics... I'm only ever to keep track of 2-3 of these interests at a time.

History (largely ancient, medieval, Church, South African, Japanese, Irish and American), languages (specifically Latin, Afrikaans and Russian), fencing, rugby (not that I play it anymore but I still follow it), cricket, golf, ceilidh, acting (in the odd amateur student production), walking (of the leisurely kind), country and western music, novels and a few other bits and bobs that have escaped my attention.

Oh much less now.

I have a husband. I paint, I go to the gym and I'm more taken in by history these days.

Studying religion, learning Italian, learning about geography/history/cultures/random countries (current obessession is Belize. Like why does it exist?? But it's cool cuz it's so small!), scouring the internet for more music (especially foreign), reading, working & interning (both wouldn't usually count for most people, but I am very invested in the charity I work at), catching up on all the movies I've missed, staying in shape, and trying to have a life outside of school.

Kidnapping other people's pets and shaving off their fur, then using that fur to felt little versions of my friends, family, and enemies, which I take outside and, using a magnifying glass, burn by harnessing the power of the Sun - like the god all will recognize me as in due time. And scrapbooking.

I'm surrounded by very annoying people at the college I go to.  There's basically nothing to do if you aren't in a frat.  There are a few things I do to pass the time until I go back home for the Summer:

-Watching Basketball games on TV
-Driving around town for no apparent reason
-Watching "10 worst songs of 20XX" videos
-Listening to music
-Attempting to sing/rap

Stamps, reading (not necessarily political books), pets, swimming, biking, Oriental culture, history and languages.

Oh yes, and paranormal stuff when I need to shut off my brain.

Subatomic particles that generally only appear in cosmic rays and from the decay of mesons and heavy quarks created in particle accelerators.

Lots.  Reading, writing essays and books, music (guitar playing), chess, traveling, landscape photography, languages, to name the ones I'm most enthusiastic about.

I was at a used book sale in the basement of a church yesterday, and I bought four books for a total of $3.50.

1.  A 2012 World Almanac -- I used to buy them all the time, but the internet rendered them obsolete.  The newest version I own is from 2006.
2.  A book on the "current" political structures of Britain, France, Germany, Italy, the Soviet Union, and the Soviet satellites.  Includes information on the recent founding of The Fifth Republic.
3.  A book on the "rise of American civilization", from the first English colonies to the present (1930).
4.  A book on world history from 476 to 816.

Based on past experience, they'll probably wind up boring the heck out of me, but did I mention they only cost me $3.50?

Also, in my living room, I still have a couple of books I'm trying to work my way through, including a grammar of American Sign Language.  I've seen lots of books on ASL vocabulary (and I should probably try finding videos on the internet), but this is the first book I've ever seen that goes into detail on facial expressions, signing space, and classifiers.  (Examples of classifiers include generic hand shapes for "individuals doing things", "crowds doing things", "containers", "flat horizontal things", and so on.)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Actually, in answer to the original question, I seem to have "old people" hobbies, like genealogy and bridge.

Economics obviously since that is what I do professionally. My most time-consuming hobby is competitive debating in British Parliamentary style.

Outside of that I'm quite into literature, philosophy, films and TV shows. I greatly enjoy board games too.

In term of actual activities, swimming, lifting weights, boxing, soccer, competitive shooting, online speculation, World of Warcraft (thankfully less so recently), Battlefield, programming, Yugioh (I actually make money from this OK), smoking (as Cathcon mentioned recently, I kind of have to since I'm a libertarian), and of course generic stuff like music, films, literature, and some board games

As for general subjects I find interesting, economics, history, nutritional and hormonal science, neuroscience, evolutionary psychology, game theory and generally trying to understand why people act the way they do all interest me.

Smoking counts as a hobby? I guess that works for me as well.
