Fiorina still has no chance because she lost a winnable Senate race and carries a bit of a Romney image.

Being potentially the only woman in the Republican field could have its benefits. Granted, there's no possible way she comes close to winning, and will probably be gone by Iowa.

I think it does say positive things about the current climate in the GOP for women, that a woman who has never been elected to anything and gets 0% polling support feels comfortable jumping into the race. Tbh, I'm not sure the same thing could be said about my own party.

My comment is more a reflection of her tenure at HP(which would haunt her as much as Romney's time at Bain Capital) and the fact she has a -5% chance of winning the nomination.

I'm guessing she's actually running for VP, but feels that she has to be considered a relatively decent GOP presidential candidate first.

I don't think that race was really winnable.

Not that I'm at all supporting her, but does holding political office have to be a requirement to run for president now?

Well no, but I find it far preferable to "I have money!"

And "I have money" is far preferable to "I was fired from my previous job after offshoring a ton of jobs and gutting the company".

The GOP wants her in at least in the beginning so it looks like their side has a woman running too.

I personally find it admirable that she's willing to run despite having no support. That takes guts.

Did they forget about their own female Senators and Governors?

They don't want to spoil a governor/senator. The beauty of having Fiorina is that if she makes a complete @$$ of herself, then it doesn't have an effect on a sitting elected official. And Fiorina doesn't have to worry about her remarks affecting her current stance in the US Senate/or as a governor.

There is no "they" that decides who runs and who doesn't.  If Haley or Martinez or whoever wanted to run for president this year, they would, regardless of what GOP leaders wanted.

Likewise, Fiorina isn't running because GOP leaders want her to.  She says a niche as the lone female candidate for the presidency on the GOP side, and is trying to take advantage of it, but she's not doing so because anyone has told her to.

Fiorina squandered a lead she had in September and beat a better candidate by the name of Tom Campbell in the primary. While it may have been a daunting task for any Republican to win that race, Boxer's approval rating was in the dumps that year and there was a legitimate chance of her going down.

I like how she moved to Virginia immediately after not being elected in California.

GOP party leaders need someone to stand on the debate stages with the angry old white men so that their party looks slightly less violently misogynistic. The question is what they promised Fiorina to get her to waste ~nine months of her retirement on this.
