I would be very glad if a native speaker could look on this again and see if there are any language issues, as obviously this is our constitution and I would very much prefer if we did not leave this just to my word-juggling/just-rarely-intelligible-English.

I offer an amendment as follows:

I don't see any reason why the Senate needs to waste its time holding hearings and voting on deputy cabinet secretaries. Let the cabinet secretaries pick whoever they want to help them.

There is just a little edit that should be made here:

I think I could be okay with Senator Lief's amendment. Deputies aren't really so significant that they require action from us.

I support Lief's amendment. If someone is truly doing an awful job with that, we have the impeachment powers for a reason...

As a representative of the Cabinet, I'd like to share my support for Senator Lief's proposal as well. In the instance of someone performing egregiously badly at their duties as a deputy, the relevant secretary or the president can easily dismiss them.

Thank you very much!

I'm okay with Senator Lief's amendment as well. Deputy secretaries truly aren't that important and it does no harm leaving them to the discretion of the respective secretaries, I would think.

Oh, I had lost track of this one. Yeah, this all looks good - both Cranberry's amendment and Lief's amendment. I fully agree that deputy hearings aren't necessary and really don't do much more than clutter up the place.

Okay then, I would be finished here. Anything left to debate, otherwise I would be content with a final vote.

Also sections 2 and 4 seem to contradict one another as to the names of the official leading each Department.

That's a good point Yankee, thanks, I'll support the amendment.

Offering this separately just in case the other one runs into opposition.

I can imagine some fancy the idea of the executive abolishing the justice department. Wink Tongue

Atlasia voted into office Hamilton and let ogis slide in through appointment and resignation Ford style without anybody realizing it. Tongue The latter of whom pardoned every Tom, Dick and John Dillinger he could find as well as himself. I don't think we should be testing our luck with executive overreach and tyranny. We have checks and balances for reason and I think preserving the legislative regulation of the cabinet in addition to advise and consent, is preferable.

Though this amendment improves my opinion of this bill and  I am "reluctant" to see this bill die, I am leaning towards nay because I am "passionately" opposed to executive overreach.

Good. I will motion for a final vote, since it seems no one has any further input here and debate has died.

I have to say that the Senate has done a fantastic work, and I am happy with the changes done on the version that narrowly failed to pass the Senate. I think this will really improve the way the Executive Power works, and it also permanently solves the GM conflict by making him dependant on the Senate instead of having him at the mercy of the President.

I might be wrong here, but wasn't there a separate bill that allowed Senators to serve in the cabinet?
