Also known as Easter Sunday.  This is the most important day on the Christian calendar.  This is the day that Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.  Unlike the figure heads of other religions, our figure head and leader, Jesus, is not dead, He's alive.  As the contemporary Christian song says - God's not dead, He's surely alive.  That's the first and biggest thing that sets Christianity apart from all other religions.

You honestly sound right now like the religious bigot missionary from my Microeco class. That's not good considering he literally carries a Bible around in his backpack and always "insists" on talking with me and my friend after class about God and religious holidays, the sacredness of procreation and sinful behavior.

And this all started after the two of us got a chance to diss Chick-fil-A during class one day regarding their prices and anti-gay policy.

Bushie, I try to be a good Christian too, but as an Asian studies person I'm compelled to point out that Amida Buddha is held to be still alive in the Western Paradise in much the same sense that Jesus is still alive at God's right hand. It's the Resurrection narrative as a whole, in its specifics, that's unique, which is why the specifics deserve to be focused on and benefit from being focused on. Neither the general idea nor the broad outlines are unusual among the world's religions.

I love Chick Fil A! Their nuggets rock, the waffle fries are wonderful, and the sauce. My mouth is watering.

Just say 'me and my boyfriend have been trying sooo hard to have a baby and no matter how hard or how often we try he just won't get pregnant.  We even eat eggs every morning hoping for a miracle!  I feel like the solution might just be hiding between your stupid and your stupid bible.'

Happy resurrection day.  Jesus died especially for the evil idiots.  And he rose again so he could smack the stupid off of the rest of us.

Or Happy Third Day of a four-day long weekend!!!

I love how Christians get all excited about this, considering this is yet another old Pagan festival co-opted by them for conversion purposes.... Bushie et al, ever wonder why the date of Easter isn't the same each year?

Because it's based on the moon. And it overlapped with Passover (originally, but the Catholics made it no longer so)

Er... even the worst of the Christian antisemites never considered Judaism to be pagan.

Thanks Sibboleth. I usually enjoy it when you pour cold water on historical misconceptions, even my own Tongue

Also obligatory

Vain the stone, the watch, the seal, Alleluia!
Christ hath burst the gates of hell, Alleluia!
Death in vain forbids Him rise, Alleluia!
Christ hath opened paradise, Alleluia!

Lives again our glorious king, Alleluia!
Where, O death, is now thy sting? Alleluia!
Once He died our souls to save, Alleluia!
Where thy victory, O grave? Alleluia!

Happy Easter to you all! The examples of Jesus and his apostles make me reflect on the sacrifices they and others have made to better our lives and bring us closer to understanding our places in the universe.

Eggs represent the coming of life which is the pagan meaning. Christ became the new coming of life. Notice how it coincides with Vernal Equinox; the coming of light.
