Following the McCain '08 model.

Will it work? I could see Christie doing better than expected ultimately. Though I'm not sure it would be enough to win him the nomination at this point.

Can someone remind me why Chris Christie should be president?

Christie was never going to win the nomination. He's not socially conservative enough, and he's extremely personally dislikeable.

Chris Christie is not the dream candidate. The base hates him, he can't be trusted to  have a trustworthy cabinet in office, and NJ's economy has worsened under his tenure. I used to think Christie was awesome because he could get elected in NJ, but I've learned better now, and might even vote for Clinton over him.

You mean the TERRIBLE Hillary Clinton?

That would work, except Chris Christie is no John McCain.

I guess the next question is: has Christie seen any of the polling in the last 6 months? Because the people of New Jersey dislike him, the Republican base dislike him, and he has gone from media darling to widely panned governor. I just don't understand why he thinks he can win the Republican nomination or even beat Hillary Clinton.

Most candidates have gotten their moment in the sun over the past 2.5 years, and the majority of them likely bought their own hype.

Wasn't Mccain a popular war hero seen as a 'maverick', who was in a very weak field in 2008. The problem with Christie is that he has deep flaws as a person that McCain didn't have.

Because one-two years ago everyone in the media was telling him that he could.

Perhaps he should plan a comeback in NJ first. His approval ratings aren't even good now.

Christie definitely could. I could see a Cruz v. Christie end match-up.

Christie should be praying for this scenario every night.

New Jersey's own Monmouth College just polled them head to head among Republicans. Cruz had a 25 point lead.

This thread is making me think of Lisa Kudrow's character on HBO's The Comeback.

But, of course, the difference is that there would be no Emmy for Chris Christie's character.

Christie is going to follow the Giuliani model of targeting certain states for a "comeback" and then driving his numbers in those states lower by actively campaigning there.
