I just realized: Does this now mean that Alberta has the most left wing government of any province?

Because if so...whoa.

I would think these would be the most likely choices for Notley's Chief of Staff based on reading media tea leaves:
1.Thomas Lukaszuk
2.Doug Hart
3.Roy Romanow
4.Janice MacKinnon

Again, I'm no insider and Notley may have a personal preference for someone I have no idea about.  I could see it being any Albertan, even one of the five CEOs, except for Dwain Lingenfelter.

Out of curiosity, who are some of the more interesting NDP/Wildrose candidates who won? I've heard that in terms of gender and ethnicity, the candidates were pretty diverse this time around, but I don't know much about them (besides Notley).
Some of may be just rumors, but Twitter and NP have given me this list of oddball NDPers:

A Chavismo supporter who defeated a PC incumbent by 40 points.
A CS university student.
A Poli Sci student.
Someone with Duck Dynasty-style facial hair. https://twitter.com/FailedProtostar/status/595780884076371969
An 18 year old
A barista
A yoga instructor
This young woman celebrating 420 on Facebook https://twitter.com/GlenStromquist/status/595969029556215809
The was a NPD candidate who was elected as MP from a riding in deepest Quebec, who said after her election that she had heard that the riding was a lovely place, and that she hoped to visit soon.  IIRC her French-language abilities did not go much past, "bon jour", but she had a French name.

Ruth Ellen Brosseau. She is now prefectly bilingual, various reports are saying she is quite liked in her riding, she is considered effective in House (she is deputy Agriculture critic) and she was elected by NPD MPs, vice-president of the NDP caucus. It's often shown as a success story.

Really? But she visited Las Vegas and can't speak French. I heard that her constituents lynched her in the streets and elected a statue of Harper as their new MP.

Yeah, NDP gave up back a crash course in French (his family was formely francophone, she had courses when young, but she forgot) , they send Mulcair to get care of the constituency problems for a few weeks until she mastered French back and they said than the accusations she was not speaking French were exagerated by a pro-Bloc radio interviewer.

Until they come up with policy proposals, it's hard to compare them with the Manitoba NDP which have a year before they face the electorate.

It also depends on your idea of what's more left - a hike on corporate taxes that generates modest revenue (Alberta) or a hike on sales tax that generates a high revenue (Manitoba). I prefer the former.

The Chavez supporter is Rod Loyola. He ran against Rachel Notley for the NDP leadership (and was also a failed candidate in the 2012 election).  Had he done better in the leadership race, Notley might have felt some pressure to put him in the cabinet, though she likely would have made up some meaningless portfolio for him (Minister of Loyola University?), but as she defeated him by around 35-1, she's probably won't anger many New Democrats by leaving him on the far left of the legislature.

Has anyone run the numbers on Stephen Harper's riding? Looks like the PCs got around 1/3 of the vote there.

Just calculated it:

NDP: 33.1%
PC: 32.6%
WRP: 27.0%
ALP: 5.0%
AP: 2.3%
Oth: 0.1%

Note: This includes advance polls in only the ridings that are a majority in his riding, so it could be off a bit.

Ha, that's worth a chuckle. Thanks.

Do you have a sense of how many Edmonton ridings the NDP might be able to snag in the fall, if support held steady?

The actual -stans (Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, etc) are oil-rich kleptocratic one-party states which maintain their power by rewarding cronies and resorting to a combination of patronage, fear-mongering, and vote-buying to win elections.

Wait a minute...

Some election result figures.

These results are based on the NDP winning the tie seat in Calgary, The P.Cs winning the Peace River riding with the approx 300 votes flipping from the Alberta Party to them and is based on the regional definitions on the wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alberta_general_election,_2015#Nominated_candidates

I had nothing to do with those regional breakdowns, so if you have a complaint with them (and I'm not a big fan of them myself) tell them about it and not me, please.

Debbie Jabbour who may or may not be the new MLA for Peace River wrote a book on Shakira!

Edit: Nevermind, it's a different Debbie Jabbour.  Odd, two Debbie Jabbour's in Alberta who both became pshychologists late in life.

Here's the Greater Edmonton Co-prosperity Sphere:

So it looks like you've redistributed the advance polls? We're working on a map right now, and it looks like Blakeman won a lot of E-Day polls.

Wonder what's behind the lower NDP support among Stoney Tribe and Tsuu T'ina Nation.

Some reserves have White communities in them. I believe Tsuu T'ina does.

Yes, the (majority-)white townsite of Redwood Meadows is located on the Tsuu T'ina reserve, and falls within the polls from the reserve.  I'm not sure if a similar situation exists on the Stoney reserve.

Also, has anyone noticed the staggering NDP support on the Samson Cree reserve (in Wetaskiwin-Camrose)?  No idea what's behind it, but the NDP got 94.36% of the vote there.
