Debate will last for 72 hours.

I have 36 hours to advocate for my bill.

Gentlemen, I feel that the Restoration of the Arts Act is - right from the start - silly. The original bill was terrible, the amended version was a bit better, but overall the bill is just a waste. I do not feel that the sponsors of either version of the bill properly justified the need for their bill. In this day and age of technology, iTunes, and YouTube, there is no justification for our school systems to spend time playing music.

Bravo.

I could not agree more.

I have been saying this for months.

The first bill was monstrous.  This bill is, as you say, and as I have said in the past, silly.

What an absolute waste of time.

I will also add to what you have said, this bill violates parental rights in determining what they want their children listening to day after day after day.

This bill is stupid, it is ridiculous, it is abhorrent.

Why should our children be subjected to these songs, ANY songs, day after day, day after day, day after day?

Let us unite as an Assembly of  what we should be, RESPONSIBLE lawmakers, not lawmakers that bring forth this garbage, and let us, together, cast this stupid law into where it belongs, into the dust  bin of bills that should be forgotten.

I would support this, if we could have mandatory arts lessons (art, music or drama) at least one a week as part of the curriculum in schools.

I would admonish the Governor to watch his language while speaking in this Assembly.

This is a legislative body, not a bar.

I mean the Legislature down south is a hospital, so why not make ours a bar?

Because we as legislators are here for the greater good of the people, not for turning the people into drunks and alcoholics.

Representative Clyde, in all honesty, and with all due respect, we would be far better off in repealing the Restoration of the Arts Act first, and after the repeal for you to introduce a completely new bill addressing arts lessons.

I believe this would work much better.

If the Restoration of the Arts Act is to be repealed, we will need at least 4 Assembly votes to accomplish this, as I believe the Governor will veto the repeal.

Therefore, we will require at least 4 of us to stand together, vote for repeal, and then vote to override the veto, if in fact it is vetoed.

I'm happy for this to be a separate act.

I support both this bill and Clyde's potential new bill. This is something that should've been done long ago.

I've said in the past that the Restoration of the Arts Act is not exactly a huge issue either way for me.

I love how this has literally been bulldozed through the Assembly, there's nothing wrong with the original bill

This bill has not been bulldozed through anything.

Debate time was not cut off early.

Like any bill, it will be given 72 hours for debate, adequate time for anyone who wishes to address the bill in the debate, after which a vote will be held.

Same as any other bill we consider in this Assembly.

Consensus is not a bad thing, Senator, nor is consensus bulldozing.

The claims that you've made about the amended version of the bill are false, we managed to get a working bill through the assembly last time. I'm just asking the Assembly to keep this bill on the books because all it does is encourage shared values across our schools.

By this premise, all education violated parental rights. I have to listen to day to day history lessons where I'm told stuff that my parents disagree on. It doesn't violate parental rights to educate children.

I apologize for the delay, I was waiting to see if anything would prosper from Senator Blair's appearance. It is, after all, in the powers of the Speaker to extend debate as he sees fit.

The vote will last for 48 hours or until all members have voted.

Representative Lincoln Republican,

I thank you for your reminders, although they are not needed. I will respond to all pending matters once I am able to get to a computer - that may not be for a a few hours after the period elapsed. Further, it is within the Speaker's purview to extend deadlines as he sees fit.

With that said, this bill passes with 4 Ayes and One Representative not voting.
