Today, Speaker Atkins and President Pro-Tem De Leon unveiled their "Immigrants Shape California" package of ten bills, the biggest part being it expands MediCal benefits to some undocumented immigrants.

Leader of the Senate Republicans, Bob Huff, commented this:

"Do nothing and blame someone else" is already part of the national Republican platform.

The ACA should obviously be expanded to cover all undocumented immigrants as well. I assume this is what he's talking about?

I guess the bottom line for be was I actually agree with his blame sentiments. Expanding MediCal to immigrants is an over one billion dollar endeavor. California shouldn't be doing this without federal assistance (which probably won't materialize).

Yes. MediCal is the California Medicaid program.

I think most people on the left support this, and economically (and morally of course) it makes sense to put these people into the system, but Republicans in Congress would obviously never support it and neither would a lot of "moderate" Democrats.

It makes sense to extend health coverage to these people because they end up getting care anyways through emergency rooms. That being said, California trying to go this alone would be disastrous. How much more can taxes he raised in California? I would support this only if the Feds assist with the costs.
