I watched a guy postulate that the internet actually connects to the world of the dead and that some of the people you talk to online aren't actually alive.  Or they are modeled on real people but the details changed a bit to throw you off the scent.

If a tree falls in a forest and no one hears it...does it make a sound?  NO!    As far as he is concerned those you talk to cease to exist when you or they go offline.  Figuratively this is true.  But literally?
