What do you do if someone calls you "Anti-American" if you oppose war?

I know during the Afghanistan and Iraq Wars, people who opposed the wars were called "anti-American", "weak", not  "tough enough", "girly-man", "anti-strength". How do you respond to people who criticize you if you have an anti-war view on Iran, Russia, Syria, China, etc.

Well I'm against a war with any of Iran, Russia, Syria, or China, but I recognize the U.S. is so much better than any of those governments, so it doesn't affect me. There's a long continuum of policy between complete accommodation and WAR

Tell them that being American means being pro-democracy; it doesn't mean being in favor of every war someone wants to jump into.  Add that needless and self-destructive wars can make a great nation not great in a big hurry.

People who think any of those terms mean anything substantial in a debate about foreign policy probably aren't worth talking with about the subject.

Laugh and ask them which branch they were/are in.  Chances are pretty good that they didn't serve.  The vast majority of people in the military wouldn't give somebody sh**t for being against any specific war or potential war.

I couldn't agree more. I think a lot of people just want to stir an uproar by asking questions that are by nature divisive. Someone else asked why Republicans hate Obama so much. The kids asking these questions sure learned rhetoric in school but did they learn reality?

I have relatives who still shun me because I opposed Iraq, and yes I have been called un American, so ya it does happen.
