I'll go with 41-43%. He's one of the better republican options and Obama's absence from the democratic ticket should be a net gain for the republican party here, but I don't buy any belief that he could seriously contest the state. More of just a partial revert back to what it was in 2000/2004, when GWB only lost it by 12/10 points.

I want to see both parties compete for California. It's time.

If he wins, I could picture him getting more than 40%.

I think Clinton is stronger than Obama among Hispanics so I would bet on Bush getting somewhere in the mid-high 30s.

Low 40s, not because he's good, but because Clinton-Bush would be the lowest turnout of all the matchup since its so boring. Everyone else would go <40.

Maybe boring to some people, but people do love a good family rivalry with some history.  Red Sox-Yankees, Giants-Cowboys, Celtics-Lakers, Duke-UNC, those games always get higher ratings.  The new kid on the block, like the KC Royals, often gets ignored because people don't care if they win or lose.

Excellent point. I can see many Hispanics and Asians who are not as engaged in the process to just sit out the election. Bush won't be as offensive to Hispanics and Asians compared to other Republicans so there is no incentive to go out and vote.
