One question from section II part j:

Quote

Does "of the voters" mean ELIGIBLE voters or THOSE VOTING? The language would seem to me to allow either interpretation.

Ah, thank you for nabbing that. I meant for it to mean those voting.

Then I'll file a quick amendment:

I'll go ahead and merge Dereich's into TNF's amendment and push it through. Tomorrow I'll put together the constitution with all of the amendments.

There's another amendment I'd like to propose, but I'm going to wait until Maxwell has time to throw what we have so far together.

I'd like to change the federal constitutional amendment procedure so that it first hits the Legislative Assembly, and if we approve it with a 2/3rds vote, it automatically becomes law with the Governor's approval. If not, then we can approve it via a voting booth, but I don't think we should waste our time trying to get people out to vote to a desolate voting booth board if we don't have to.

I find this Deeply Disturbing, for many reasons, most especially the establishment of official languages in the Most Serene Republic.

I'm certainly willing to address concerns you might have insofar as they do not conflict with the overall goal of constitutional reform.

Why are you concerned about official languages?

As a linguist, I think it's counterproductive to say that any particular set of languages serve as the Midwest's "official" ones.  All languages are equally worthy of respect and consideration; regardless of the intention, the moniker "official" might be used to discriminate against citizens who do not speak them.

I'll put in an objection for TNF's amendment, to give ilikeverin the time to respond to TNF's question.

Which amendment are you referring to? Because the older one already passed.

Aye

Once we finish a vote on this amendment, I will have put together a full form of our constitution, and then we can talk about what's next.

Then when we have a new constitution, we'll have some more ideas hopefully.

This passes. If I get a good block of time tomorrow, we can see where the constitution is at now that we've made a good hunk of changes.

I noticed a missed Althing to Legislative Assembly change, but beyond that the constitution looks okay.

Section III, part g still mentions the Archduke. That should be changed. I'd also prefer the "25,000" thing to go or be raised to a more reasonable number, perhaps 100,000. It'll be a waste of our government's time and money either way, but with a higher number it'd be slightly less unwieldy.

The numbering is also off in the sections, so I'm introducing a grand corrections amendment in a bit.
