Has anyone read GRRM's original 3-page outline of the series?

This is back when he had only written under half of the first book. And the second book would have been Daenerys with her Dothraki invasion, and the third book the invasion of the Others (White Walkers).

There are multiple changes, but it gives you an idea of where some plot threads still might go.

Like Jaime taking the Iron Throne, Arya and Jon falling in love with each other and that being a problem until his true parentage is revealed (maybe Sansa will play that role now?), Tyrion in love with Arya, and the 5 characters who survive: Jon, Bran, Arya, Daenerys, Tyrion.

But there were definitely changes. Like originally Catlyn being killed by and becoming a White Walker (after taking Arya back with her to Winterfell, and Arya and Bran with her to Castle Black and then further north). Sansa having Joffrey's son and choosing them over her family but later regretting it (and presumably her and her son being killed by Jaime). Daenerys wanting revenge for her brother and killing Khal Drogo. Robb dies in battle, after maiming Joffrey who's later deposed by Tyrion after Tyrion destroys Winterfell. Uncle Benjen staying around longer. Ned's death seem the same.

Anyways, nice to see forgotten characters and plotlines finally brought back, from the Greyjoys to the Northerners. from Pycelle/Kevan/Tyrell's to Rickon/Osha, and even a mention of the Hound and his presumed death. Also the Arryn kid is in the preview to the next episode with Littlefinger. Even the Dothraki are back, and the other cities of Slavers Bay and some of the Free Cities (well, one, Volantis) are getting a plot.

Who/what else needs some resolution? I can think of
 -Gendry
 -Brotherhood Without Banners
-that strange woman from Qarth who could see Dany's future and had a weird mask hiding her face
-that guy is Pentos, who Arya overheard talking to Varys, and gave Daenerys the dragon eggs... Magister Illyrio? something like that
-Tully's and Frey's in the Riverlands (definitely happening at some point)

Wow! That ending...

Also...

* Jon and Sansa!!
* Sansa finally has her act together... and seems quite Queenly
* Brienne meets Melisandre and Davos... uh oh
* Tormund & Brienne?
* Poor Osha (at least it was over quickly, but if her killing Ramsay was supposed to be part of the conspiracy, I hope they have a Plan B)
* Yara has decided to become just as cold as her father I see, but at least Theon made it back to her ok
* Cersei finally makes an alliance with the Tyrells and a plan to overthrow the High Sparrow... but I have the feeling Cersei will betray them
* Well, at least we got to see Margaery and Loras (RIP my short-lived High Sparrow theory, lol)
* The Vale finally going to see some action... I think they're the kingdom I forget the most
* Mereen was actually semi-interesting and finally had a plot development

Does anyone else get the feeling that the High Sparrow might outright win?

Lots of plotlines coming together (or finally progressing)!

 Benjen is back!

Bran having visions of the Mad King saying "Burn them all!" was cool.

Walder Frey and Edmure Tully are back, the Brotherhood without Banners is back and the Blackfish are (almost) back!

Margaery finally out of the dungeon. Was her conversation with Loras the turning point, seeing him as pathetic? Or is she playing her own game?

Arya gives up the Faceless Men. I hope that other girl dies soon. I wonder which face she'll wear?

Daenerys is finally ready to invade. (though logistically... how is she going to feed all those Dothraki just waiting outside Mereen's gates? How does she feed her dragons too, anyways?)

I still have no idea what to think of the Sam/Gilly storyline... I don't want them to die, but I want to stop wasting time on them. Though at least it was a little different for them tonight.

Jon saw him.

Only people who have talked to Jon, or Bran/Meera/Coldhands, have talked about him.

Jon saw him.

Only people who have talked to Jon, or Bran/Meera/Coldhands, have talked about him.

But how did Jon know that was the leader of all White Walkers, or that he went by the name "Night King"?  And why did Davos mention the name to Lyanna Mormont, as if she'd know what he was talking about?

He doesn't go by any name. He's the Night's King because that's what Jon and the 3-Eyed Raven decided to call him, after the infamous "fairy tales".

No, that's a fan-made collection of scenes from previous episodes, with some clips from the official trailer mixed in.
I know... it's still a new epic trailer for Episode 9.
(and it's not like it has fake footage or anything)

If Rickon dies, or anyone on Jon and Sansa's team dies... what's to stop Melisandre from bringing them back to life?

Unless Davos kills her...

Imagine we see Daenerys set sail near the beginning or middle of the episode... then (timejump!) the last scene is her setting foot on Westeros as the sun sets, with King's Landing burning with emerald flames in the distance... but then it begins to snow and a years-long night begins.

My predictions

Winterfell
 -aftermath of battle
-Jon and Sansa decide to trust one another
-Jon helps Sansa kill Littlefinger when he oversteps his bounds (Littlefinger can be blinded by love/obsession and be compulsive then, that's his weakness)
-Davos and Melisandre showdown, one of them leaves, probably Davos
-someone might proclaim Jon as the King in the North

The Twins
-someone attacks the Freys by surprise (could be Arya, could be someone with a heart of stone, could be the Brotherhood with the Hound)
-not sure if Jaime lives, but probably

The Wall
 -Bran crosses the Wall
 -the Wall comes down
 -unsure of Benjen's fate
-Bran sees into the Tower of Joy, and leans R+L=J

King's Landing
 -Loras repents and is forgiven
-Cersei doesn't show up to her trial
-Wildfire destroys the Sept and all the Tyrells and Sparrows in it (including the High Sparrow, Margaery, Loras, Mace Tyrell, Pycelle, Kevan Lannister, Septa Unella, etc.)
-Tommen, who was forced to stay in the Red Keep by the Mountain, confronts his mother, learns the truth about how she did kill King Robert and how Jaime is his father, and dies to spite her
-Cersei loses her mind, cackling madly on the Iron Throne while she and the rest of King's Landing go up in flames instead of fleeing with Qyburn since Tommen is now dead

Highgarden or Dorne
-Varys enacts a deal with Margaery's grandmother, Ellaria and the Sandsnakes, and Euron Greyjoy... but it might not be for Daenerys

Meereen
-Daenerys sets sail for Westeros with Tyrion and Theon at her side, along with the hordes of Dothraki and legions of Unsullied in the Ironborn's Fleet

And my how they've grown...

It was two months later. Dornish and Tyrell ships are with Dany's fleet.

So the remaining members of the main ruling families in the show are...

House Stark
 -Sansa
 -Arya
 -Bran (probably can't have children)
 -Benjen (half-undead)
 -Jon Snow

House Targaryen
 -Daenerys (can't have more children)
 (Jon Snow)

House Lannister
 -Cersei
 -Jaime
 -Tyrion

House Greyjoy
 -Euron
 -Theon (eunuch)
 -Yara (captured)

House Arryn
-Robyn (training at boot camp somewhere in the Vale)

House Tully
 -Edmure??? +Son???

House Baratheon
 (Gendry?) otherwise extinct

House Tyrell
extinct

House Martell
extinct

House Bolton
extinct

House Frey
extinct

so basically just Starks, Targaryen(s), Lannisters, Greyjoys
(we'll see if Gendry, Robyn, or Edmure are ever important again)

House Tarly (Sam's family) might now be in charge of Highgarden and the Reach, and now a major family.

The rest are just considered commoners, or from minor noble families:

in Oldtown, interacting with Sam...
 -Gilly
-the Archmaester that Sam reports to

allied with Cersei/Jaime...
 -Qyburn
 -the Mountain
 -Bronn

allied with Daenerys...
 -Jorah Mormont
 -Missandei
 -Grey Worm
 -Varys

in the North storyline, allied with Jon or Sansa or Bran (or the Brotherhood since they're heading North to fight the White Walkers now)...
 -Brienne of Tarth
 -Podrick Payne
 -Davos Seaworth
 -Tormund
 -Edd of the Night's Watch
 -Meera Reed
 -the Hound
-the two guys in charge of the Brotherhood without Banners, Thoros of Myr and Beric Dondarrion
 -Lyanna Mormont
-that Lord from the Vale who's been in Winterfell (Royce?)
-a few Northern Lords who have been named, especially in Jon's coronation scene (Glover, Cerwyn, Manderly), plus the 2 new Karstark/Umber kids
 -Littlefinger

None of the above...
 -Melisandre
 -Hot Pie

Great episode! Lots of callbacks this episode...

Jaime like to kill his Targaryens when their back is turned...

(T2Q EDIT- Had to remove the Baratheon one due to language)

Also, it was learning what happened at the Field of Fire, with the burning of Lannister men, that convinced Torrhen Stark to bend the knee to a Targaryen invader with 3 dragons...

Bronn's bromance is more with Tyrion, who is also there... and Bronn is ultimately a sellsword, and a pragmatic one, he declined Tyrion's offer to be his champion during the trial by combat.

That will be remembered on par with Ned's death.

Finally White Walkers and Wrights versus Dragons... and while the Dragons cause great initial damage, it looks like the Night King was EXPECTING the dragons, even allowing Jon's plan to unfold and use him and Jorah as bait for Dany. He knew it was coming. He was waiting. He knew the dragon would show up. It was all part of his plan.

And not how fans thought a Dragons versus White Walkers battle would go, which makes you wonder about the endgame.

RIP to Uncle Benjen and Thoros, as well.

Oh and Arya is totally psychotic. I hated Sansa in season 1, and was "meh" on her until around Lysa's death and she manipulated the Lords of the Vale. But come on. This isn't even close. Arya is threatening her sister with death. Sansa is reverting a bit back to her spoiled self as well, but it's not even close.
