I like them because pumping gas is below my station.  What am I, a common coachman?  Good heavens no!  It would be a scandal if I were to be see doing manual labor in public.

Surely you would have a driver in this kind of situation, yes?

Yes.  But, the driver of my Maybach shouldn't have to stoop that low.  And, I'm thinking of the common people who have to suffer the indignity of driving themselves around.

For those who are handicapped drivers, full service is a benefit, but at least around here, the pumps have buttons that allow for an attendant to be called for them.  Cars also used to require more than simply fillling them up when you stopped.

I have never seen a full service gas station before, and I never want to. I am not a lazy.
Is tipping expected at these things?

I don't care for them.  That's one of the biggest annoyances about driving in Mexico.  Pemex, of course, has worse problems, but that is one that hits me right away every time.  I've noticed that when I drive through the country and emerge on the other side, whether into Guatemala or Belize, I have actually experienced joy upon an Exxon or Shell and notice people pumping their own fuel.

Voted for option 3.

Option 1 (former New Jersey denizen).

We have two stations near where my parents live whose attendants still pump the gas for women who are by themselves as a courtesy, but are self service for everyone else.

Oklahoma is adorable.
