There is already a thread about the whole of West Virginia, but its 3rd congressional district is definitely most interesting district for the Democrats.

Nope, it will swing D but she will go from like 34% to 38% in places like McDowell. Not nearly enough.

Maybe Mingo or McDowell county, though both would be quite a bit of a stretch.

What makes McDowell so "Democratic"?

mainly poverty and coal - which is also why they won't be voting for a national Democrat any time soon; they don't want to lose the few coal jobs they have left.

Sorry for the bump, but see... this is why the Rockefeller Republicans' idea/wish that WV/KY/AR/etc. are all Democratic states at heart that will "come home again" soon is ridiculous.

Pretty reasonable guess at the time of the post ... you ended up being right, but thinking that at that time would have said as much about your desire for the GOP to be this "WWC" party (whatever the  that means, LOL) as it would have about Rocky's desire the other way.

Saying that Clinton would be competitive in MO and AR and do very well in WV was never a reasonable prediction, and certainly not in 2015. It's just that Rocky (I miss him, btw - Is he your twin brother? haha) didn't want to accept that these states are solidly Republican nowadays (at least at the presidential level). I'm sure he would have liked the Maine, Michigan and Wisconsin results had any other Republican won the presidency, though. Wink
