Moderate/Strong FF. Obviously I wish he was better but he's been a huge fighter for criminal justice reform (something Ron was very ineffective or really didn't care about), against NSA spying, and despite a general shift to Republican orthodoxy on most issues, is still far preferable to any other GOPer by a fair distance.

While I appreciate his moments of clarity on issues like the drug war (although, let's be real - the libertarian position of just letting everyone out of jail is a bad idea when you have a ruined economy and a prison system that makes people more dangerous on average than when they entered it), foreign policy, and the security state, Rand Paul is on the whole a dangerous reactionary, moreso because he has the ability to coat it in ways that make his ideology palatable to young people and others who might naturally otherwise drift to the left.

Thankfully, his brand of conservatism (which is mostly a public fiction, given that he no doubt is lying to cover up the fact that he's as much of a paleoconservative as his father, given his political statements from before his run for office in 2010) is not what the people who fund the Republican Party are interested in, given that any cutback in the national security state or the prison-industrial complex would mean class warfare coming back out into the open again, as it had during the 1970s, before the 'War on Crime' and the 'War on Drugs' were instigated to divide workers along the color line.

Always has been my favorite Republican, (at least out of those with national recognition) and I would seriously consider voting for him over Hillary, given his views on the drug war and civil liberties, combined with the fact that Hillary will be just as every bit right-wing as her husband. Though I would have to seriously consider given that a GOP President + congress would surely try to cram Right to Slave laws down our collective throats.

Even if my opinion of him has gone down a bit, he's still (by far) the best Republican in the field.

He has said and done some things I disagree with. I dislike some of his proposals, but overall on the issues that matter most to me (Foreign policy and the spy network) he is one of the best in office. Therefore he gets a FF vote from me.

Yeah, putting someone under water for a limited time, leaving no permanent physical damage is hardcore torture.

Torture is torture. And torture is unconstitutional.
