This law restricts minors from crossing state lines in order to get an abortion.  It's VERY unconstitutional and I think it will get struck down.  I voted NO of course.

If you can justify every bloody program of yours under the sun by the Interstate Commerce Clause...then I think this could fall under it as well.

It isn't commerce.

Abortion is commerce. You pay someone for a service.

Right, but the commerce doesn't go anywhere, the individual does, prior to committing the commerce.  This would be like barring private individuals from Missouri from driving to Illinois to buy cigarettes.

Sounds like finding any ol' excuse to try and enforce anti-abortion laws.  This is probably the stupidest one so far.  The only way you can successfully implement an anti-abortion law is to make it nationwide.  If you can't do that, don't bother.

Dumb law. I vote no.

I guess Congress thinks it can keep people in suspended animation by preventing them from traveling to other states or something.

Restaruants and hotels are considered interstate commerce, but those don't go anywhere either prior to the commerce either. Yet, still they are considered interstate. I'm not disagreeing with your logic, but that's how this whole interstate commerce crap has gone - the extent to which they have taken it out of context is idiotic.

No liberal should dare say anything about the constitutionality of this act. You can't justify the power to ban the ownership of assault weapons under the 'interstate commerce' clause (which doesn't exist), while at the same time try to deny the regulation of actual traffic among the states.

But not only do they do just that, they go as far as to call it "VERY" unconstitutional! Hilarious!

I take no position as to whether or not this is constitutional. I only point out the hypocrisy.

I don't think minors should be able to get abortions without parental consent.  I support parental consent laws even within states, so I see no reason to oppose an interstate consent law.

It makes little sense to me that a minor can't be given an aspirin legally without parental consent, but can get an abortion.  Abortion is not a sacrament, as some feminists seem to believe.

How? Let me make it easier for you fools who try to make me feel sorry for these girls.

Step 1: They make a choice to screw a guy, knowing full well that they could get pregnant.

Step 2: They get pregnant.

Does anyone see anything that makes it anything other than the girls fault for being pregnant.

I have repeatedly stated that many things I oppose banning are not constitutional rights. Can't say the same about you.

I think those are just hotel and restaurant chains that are doing business in more than one state.

What does 'fault' have to do with it?  That is completely irrelevant.  Do we ask if it is someone's fault for having an accident before we treat their injuries?  No.

Just as she chose to have sex, she should be able to chose to get an abortion.  It should all be up to her, and it is no one else's business.

Yet another example of Congress attempting to overstretch the Interstate Commerce Clause. This is almost as ridiculous as the previous federal law prohibiting rape, made on the grounds that rape discourages victims from pursuing interstate commerce. Congress is clearly overstepping its bounds here, as it has done on so many other occasions under this clause.

I agree with Phlip, he can't have an abortion either. Or maybe since he was at equal fault for impregnating the girl, maybe he should have to consent if she wants the abortion.
