there's no evidence that Hernandez was better than Gronkowski at any point in time.  he was still very young, so as for "what could have been?", we'll never know.

They're the same age though. 

The real difference is that Rob Gronkowski is a tight end.  Aaron Hernandez could be a great pass catcher, but he would never provide the blocking, versatility and red zone target that Gronk could.
