Blank map, states only:

Having lost the old map of gubernatorial approval, I start anew. One of the most unlikely states (Indiana) to be polled has been polled and thus gets the dubious honor of starting the discussion, as the approval rating of its current governor has been shown:

Backtracking one pollster at a time:

MILWAUKEE – A new Marquette Law School Poll finds Gov. Scott Walker’s job approval rating has fallen to 41 percent, with 56 percent of registered voters in Wisconsin saying they disapprove of how he is handling his job as governor. In the previous poll, in October 2014, Walker’s approval among registered voters was 49 percent, with 47 percent disapproving.

Quinnipiac, CO/IA/VA

Governors in all three states enjoy strong job approval ratings:

    52 - 38 percent for Gov. John Hickenlooper in Colorado;
    53 - 36 percent for Gov. Terry Branstad in Iowa;
50 - 28 percent for Gov. Terry McAuliffe in Virginia.

http://www.quinnipiac.edu/news-and-events/quinnipiac-university-poll/2016-presidential-swing-state-polls/release-detail?ReleaseID=2186

Quinnipiac, FL/OH/PA

Florida voters disapprove 49 - 42 percent of the job Gov. Rick Scott is doing, continuing a four-year streak of negative ratings.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich gets a 61 - 28 percent job approval rating, continuing his trend as one of the highest-ranked governors in any of the nine states surveyed by Quinnipiac University.

Pennsylvania's new governor, Tom Wolf, gets a 44 - 34 percent approval rating.

(I am rating this one as "in transition" -- and a yellow "caution light")

Quinnipiac, Andrew Cuomo, D-NY

In today's survey, men approve 52 - 40 percent, while women approve 49 - 39 percent, going against the trend in which women approve of Democrats more than men. Democrats give Cuomo a lackluster 63 - 27 percent approval rating, low for same-party voters. Independent voters approve 49 - 40 percent while Republicans disapprove 55 - 37 percent.

Did I miss any credible polls from after the 2014 election? If so, then I have shown how to insert them.

Note -- If a governor dies, resigns, is impeached and removed, ends a completed term in office without being re-elected (old polls remain if he is re-elected because people know what they are voting for) or is found ineligible to serve as Governor, then his state is to be colored white until the next poll of the new Governor.

This thread is to be locked on Election Day 2016.

Baker is enjoying sky-high ratings in a  Suffolk University poll released Wednesday, in part because of his handling of the record snowfall that besieged his state. More than 70% of registered voters say they approve of the way Baker, the first Republican governor of Massachusetts since 2007, is doing his job and about 74% give him a favorable rating.

I don't think you have to worry about that.  I don't think there are any other posters who will care enough to bother.  It may occasionally generate discussion of a specific poll, but I expect otherwise you'll have this thread pretty much to yourself.

Mississippi, Mason-Dixon. Phil Bryant up 72-20. I don't ordinarily like Mason-Dixon, but it can't be far off enough to be unrealistic. We see few polls of Mississippi.

Thank you. I love to fill in a swath of color, and Minnesota is a big one.

Mark Dayton at 54% approve vs 36% disapprove.

Here's one for Michigan -- and I can't use it because it is in the excellent-good-fair-poor format. Problem? "Fair" is ambiguous. "Excellent-good-mediocre-poor-horrible" or "A/B/C/D/fail" might be useful, as I would put a "mediocre" or "C" into the undecided zone.

Rick Snyder, R-Michigan:

12% excellent, 40% pretty good, 30% just fair, 17% poor

Mississippi, Mason-Dixon. Phil Bryant up 72-20. I don't ordinarily like Mason-Dixon, but it can't be far off enough to be unrealistic. We see few polls of Mississippi.

Transition over in Oregon -- the incumbent Democratic governor replacing Kitzhaber (Kate Brown) would get 47-32 over any current R challenger. This is surely close to approval.

The pollster looks like an R-leaning pollster, but matchups are not approval ratings. Oregon is probably in a middle shade of red. Besides, Kate Moore has never been elected Governor and appointed and successor governors have a poor record in getting re-elected. My use of a 40% shade of red for Oregon is only an estimate. The asterisk is for an appointed or successor governor.

Now, PPP, Arizona.

The good news for the current Governor of Arizona is that he has room to grow, in view of the 29% 'not sure' acceptable for someone new to the elected office . The bad news for him is

(1) that he has much convincing to do, and
(2) other Republicans are not faring well in Arizona.

The demographic trend that turned California, New Mexico, Nevada, and Colorado from lean-Republican states in the 1970s to lean-to-strong Democratic states now  is apparently at work in Arizona, only delayed. Arizona is in transition from R to D, and whether it makes the switch in 2016 or 2020 is much in doubt.

Governor Bobby Jindal (R-Louisiana)
--
Job Performance

Another year of budget deficits and additional reductions to state services continues to take its toll on Governor Jindal’s popularity with Louisiana voters. Governor Bobby Jindal’s job performance rating is at an all time low. He receives a 31.8% positive job performance rating from Louisiana voters. The Southern Media & Opinion Research Survey in December 2014 had Governor Jindal with a 40.9% positive job rating.  Jindal’s negative job rating was 57.6% in December 2014 and today stands at 64.7%. Governor Jindal’s excellent job performance rating fell from 10.4% last December to 4.6% in this latest survey.  Jindal’s latest decline comes primarily from his republican base. Republican voter’s barely gave him a higher positive job ratings with 53.5% than negative 44.1%. The September 2012 Southern Media & Opinion Research Survey showed Bobby Jindal with a 78.3% positive job rating from republicans with 27.1 of those percentage points being an excellent job rating.

Andrew Cuomo, D-NY

June 3, 2015 - Ethics Help Pull New York Gov. Cuomo To New Low, Quinnipiac University Poll Finds; Voters Say 2-1 Clean House To Clean Up Albany

This compares to a 50 - 39 percent job approval rating in a March 18 survey by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University.
