She has to. We as a party can't have her go into the Fall of 2016 being 8+ years removed from her last debate.

What are the pros and cons of Hillary actually participating in this?

Pros
-It gives her a chance to define herself.
-She can practice for the general debate and inevitable hecklers.
-It reduces the image that she's arrogant about her success.

Cons
-She will be the main source of attacks by other candidates.
-Her Iraq vote will almost certainly be mentioned again.
-It could boost her opponents recognition.

She has to. She can't look like Obama did in the first presidential debate in 2012.

Who knows? Maybe the debates can be a substantive discussion about policy and the future of the Democratic Party.

Anyone want to announce their candidacy? I'd like to debate Hills. I don't want Vermin Supreme to get all the limelight.

Something some on this forum clearly do not want.

How nice of them. The reaction to Clinton being allowed to speak for over 80% of the debate running times should be interesting.

Doubt they'll actually do that. And even if they do, it will be to get Clinton to make some major gaffe, not to make her opponents weaker.

She has to participate for reasons that have nothing whatsoever to do with winning the primary and everything to do with looking like a real-life human being for the general election electorate. The negative press she'd get for refusing to debate would outweigh any conceivable bruising she might take in a debate.

Because it really hurt Obama in 2012, right?

It didn't jeopardize his chances of winning, but he was up a good 10 points in most polls heading into it and only won by 4. Democrats might have won back the House if he had dominated Romney that night.
