Um... no one is going to buy food at this restaurant if its that expensive. Its supply/demand economics. They are losing customers with these prices (and therefore losing profit), just as people are losing money buying here. That said, it sounds like a typical snobby restaurant you would find in the upper east side of Manhattan.

We're freaking out about nothing.

Please see original post for proof that someone is dumb enough to buy food at this place.

I was using no one in a figurative way. If someone wants to buy something at that price, that's on them, but they have every right not to, and considering the ratings as well as the price, they would be dumb to dine there.

Are you familiar with Veblen goods?

Looking at the Yelp! reviews, it appears Nello's is one of those places you go to not for the food but for the very expensive privilege of "seeing and being seen." They also have a location in Southampton that I assume is frequented mainly by the sort of people whose families would not have been allowed in any Southampton establishment two generations ago.
